Here is a peak into my home made Thermostat.
I have a heater that only has the on- and off option, that makes it easy to control.
I removed the old Honeywell thermostat and connected the wires to a relay and GPIO of the Raspberry Pi.
Than I used the hole in the wall to provide the iPad ...

I would like to understand this a bit more as well. When you say you have a few airplay locations. What are these devices? Also how are you streaming the audio to the device?

Here's a project I'm working on for a while now.
I have a couple of airplay locations in house (for example: bathroom, kitchen, garage).
