Energy read "computed" or "from device"
Hi,
Can someone explain me the difference between the energy read options "computed" and "from device"?
I have an Inepro DDS-1Y kWh Meter (2000 pulses per kWh) and I have a S0PCM-5 Pulse Counter Module.
The S0PCM-5 Pulse Counter Module port is configured for "Energy" and 2000 pulses per hour.
I doubt if the Watts reading is accurate, so perhaps that is a matter of changing a setting...
Kind regards,
Rene.

Where do you see those 2 options for energy read?
Set1 = RPI-Zero+RFXCom433+S0PCM+Shield for BMP180/DS18B20/RS485+DDS238-1ZNs
Set2 = RPI-3A++RFLinkGTW+ESP8266s+PWS_WS7000
Common = KAKUs+3*PVLogger+PWS_TFA_Nexus
plus series of 'satellites' for dedicated interfacing, monitoring & control.

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
Cannot remember to have seen that choice when I installed S0PCM for Domoticz.
At this moment in my setup I see that the selection-'dot' is at 'Device', apparently as result of the automatic upgrades of Domoticz-software.
As deduction, in my opinion 'Device' means that Domoticz takes the value as reported by S0PCM.
The firmware of S0PCM has been upgraded since the time I installed it, and recently I also went to version 5.
I vaguely remember to have heard that in S0PCM some extra features have been added which can optionally be called by Domoticz.
The wiki is not uptodate for explanation on that choice:
therefore I guess/speculate that 'Computed' means that Domoticz has some hidden computation, in relation to extra information from S0PCM, or there is some other, undocumented feature for the S0PCM-interface ........
Because I also have some questions related to the accuracy of the results out of some channels of S0PCM, for 'try-and-error' I will shift those S0PCM-channels to 'Computed' and will look what happens.

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
How can I check my S0PCM firmware version and is it user-upgradable?
I think in my case selecting "computed" is giving more accurate results, but I am not completely convinced about this.

(At least at my S0PCModule) the housing of the S0PCM has a sticker showing the firmware-version at delivery.
Is upgrable by user if you have the latest firmware-file with suitable upload-software and instructions.

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"

handling of actual power values seems OK/unchanged, but the related accumulated day-values in Domoticz now stay fixed at 0
Conclusion: still questionmark

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"

2 channels are for Consumption (and according to gordonb3's assumptions should start counting immediately after midnight, providing me with some values at breakfast)
3 channels are for Generation (and at breakfast to be expected still at 0, coming up later in the morning).

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
In my setup the result of the test over last 2 days is clear:
Questionmark remaining related to meaning of other setting 'Computed'.
- 5 of 5 S0PCM-channels report a dayenergy-value of 0

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
Difference between Computed and from device is simple:
Computed:
Domoticz compute the energy by subtracting values sent by device.
Domoticz computes the energy by multiplying time and power,
for instance: 5 watts lamp light on for 2 hours, energy consumption is 5x2 = 10 wh = 0,010 kwh
This is useful if device doesn't send energy consumption or if device precision energy meter is too low.
In last example if device reads energy with a precision of 0,1 kwh, it doesn't send the consumption of the lamp until it reach a value of 0,1 kwh. But with computed method you can read the energy consumption every minute.

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
In my setup the S0PCM reports for all channels an actual power which seems reasonably correct
[for the 3 'generation-channels' I have comparison-info from my K8055-board+software: see http://www.vannwnhzn.nl/grafiek.jpg ].
That makes me wonder, because it demonstrates that the S0PCM-calculations are rather accurate.
And more surprising is that these actual power values are shown regardless whether 'Computed' or 'From Device' is selected.
Therefore it seems that juankar's explanation is not true, but what is then the explanation?

Re: Energy read "computed" or "from device"
I have using this setting for Qubino switches, whose energy meter has 0,1 kwh precision, and it works fine as computed. I don't use in production.
