Wireshark will tell you a lot. You want to add an IP filter for your Gateway and perhaps see if there are any connection attempts to it from your Domoticz IP.

Maybe try a install of Domoticz on Windows rather than Synology? That may get you a step closer.

Alternatively, you could try Wireshark.

I don't use Chrome but can you not install Android apps under Chrome, or perhaps you could do it under an Android emulator if you can't wait until tomorrow. If the Apple app works fine with the Gateway but Domoticz doesn't then the two obviously can't communicate.

It could also be that something on Synology is using port 9898 already. Installing Darkstat might help to highlight this.
