Connections issues concerning Geocode, Backup, DZVenz, configuration

Post by Marty »

Hi there!

Using Domoticz (v4.9700) on Windows 10 with a Aeon Labs Z-Stick I encounter several problems for which I assume they are related.

1. It starts with the Setup of the location. Clicking on "To find your location click here" I get the message
Geocode Request Denied
However writing down the Latitude and Longitude by hand works fine and is recognised by for example Open Weather Map.

2. The second problem in the Setup is Email notification. After filling in the Google SMTP server etc and hit the "Test" button I get the message:
Notification Sent. Should arrive at your device soon...
Unfortunately I do not recieve any email. I tried all combinations of ports, users, paswords etc, but no email.
However, setting up the notifications with Prowl works fine so apparently Domoticz is able to make an external connection.

3. Next problem is setting up Backup/Restore. If I hit the "Backup Database" botton Domoticz asks where to store the "backupdatabase.php". When I check the file it appears to have a size of zero bytes, so nothing is backed up.

4. When adding devices it appears to be impossible to change the configuration settings of the devices. The configuration of the Aeon Z-Stick looks as follow:

As you can see not one of the settings is ever updated. Trying to change this configuration by changing some values and hitting the "Apply configuration for this device" button has no effect.

5. Additional to this problem I went to "Node management" followed by "Control Panel" and it's completely empty. No values what so ever are filled.

I reported this to the Aeontec helpdesk. They replied:
You can also help determine if it could be hardware related is to try software Zensys Tool and see if you can connect to it (easiest software for debugging and testing): http://www.axialcontrol.com/zensys-tools.zip. To connect Z-Stick with Zensys Tools go to (Categories -> Settings -> Select correct COM port -> Then press apply or OK).

Again it was'n possible to connect to Aeolab Zwave stick:

Strange that this tool doesn't find the Zwave stick at all, while Domoticz finds the stick and can use it to adjust switches etc.
As a result from problems 4 and 5 I'm not able to change any configuration of any device, not with Domoticz Setup Devices, not with the ZWave control panel in Domoticz and not with the seperate tool suggested by Aeontec Helpdesk.

6. Last problem (so far!) is with Events. Any event written in Blockly works fine, but a script written in dzVents doesn't work. Even the most simple example event from the exellent dzVents manual found on the Domoticz Wiki page doesn't work. The dzVents script doesn't write anything to the Domoticz log and it's not possible to adjust switches. Only saving a dzVents script causes an entry in the log:
2019-04-08 19:26:11.470 Status: dzVents: Write file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Domoticz\scripts\dzVents\generated_scripts\dzVentsTest.lua

When I check at that given location the file isn't there. Only the "README.md" file is present.

To be short: a part of Domoticz is working fine: I can adjust sitches and events in Blockly work, but a lot of other features don't work.

Additional to questioning the Aeotec helpdesk I tried several possible solutions:
  • Using the Zwave stick on another system I borrowed from a friend (raspberry pi) worked fine. So there is no hardwareproblem to the stick.
  • On W10 I installed the latest USB drivers from Aeotec.
  • I re-installed Domoticz and Python after setting the Zwave stick back to the factory settings.
  • I disconnected the W10 computer from the internet and disabled Norton Security firewall.
None of these action had any positive effect.

As mentioned before I guess these problem can be related and are a result of the same cause. I suspect it has something to do with a W10 setting, but I have no idea which one! Anyone familiar with this combination of problems? Any suggestions for solving them?
Thanks for your reply!
