Cheap 433Mhz single channel LED strip controller from eBay?

Post by ThinkPad »

I am looking for a cheap 433Mhz dimmer for my LED-strip (single color, warmwhite).
Basically the ACM-LV24 from KaKu does what i want.

However, i am a big fan of shopping in China, and found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-RF-Wireless ... 1316838983 a LOT cheaper

Does anyone have experience with a dimmer like that, in combination with RFXCOM and Domoticz?
According to the specs it is 433.92Mhz. It also has 10 dimming levels (apart from the 100%, 50%, 25% buttons), which is sufficient for me.

Hi,

I just ordered the one from ebay. I don't know if it is going to work but it's too cheap to not give it a try :D . And so the waiting starts...........

That was also my idea if i wouldn't get any response to this topic. But maybe someone had already ordered it and knew it would work, or not...

I posted this question also on domoticaforum.eu and got a PM from 'b_weijenberg' (guy behind RFXCOM i thought):
Hi,

It looks a lot similar to this one i tested:
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/mini-dimmer- ... ximum.html

But i have often seen that our Chinese friends change the protocol every now and then, so it is not sure if yours is gonna work.
Downside is also that the dimmer has no on/off, but uses a toggle.

And as far as i know it is not yet implemented in Domoticz.
I think i'll wait until Mooseknuckle receives his, and can give us any more information. It's not that i don't want to try for myself, but i already have a lot of stuff lying around here
Let's see what Mooseknuckle kan pick up with RFXCOM connected to Windows PC and then run RFXmngr and pressing some buttons on the remote.... Maybe we can send that information back to 'b_weijenberg'.

I also asked b_weijenberg if it isn't already supported by the RFXCOM (Lighting4 or something?) and he said:
It is Lighting5 - MDREMOTE and i don't think you can use that already in Domoticz.
Besides that you also need a whole range of buttons with that device then. Have look in RFXmngr when you choose MDREMOTE, you will see which commands you can use.
I now also see there already is a topic about this, where b_weijenberg has also posted: http://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopic ... =682#p3481

Hi,

Well I received the controller already and it works with the remote. Unfortunately it doesn't give any info in rfxmgr. I followed the manual from rfx.com: enable x10, undec on and push some buttons, but no code appears in rfxmgr. Even after flashing to ext_241 firmware I received nothing. So it looks like a dead end with this controller. Anything else I could try?

Greetings,

Hi,

Mentioned in the RFXtrx_User_Guide: MDremote signal from the remote is not received but you can use your RFXtrx to send the MDremote signals.
I think it never will be supported by Domoticz.

Just checked.
In RFXMNGR set undec on
Push a button on your MDREMOTE.

It returns:

Code: Select all

Packettype        = UNDECODED RF Message
UNDECODED NEC:20348401B3
20348401B3

My MDREMOTE ID is 34 84
Send signals via RFXMNGR:

Packettype = UNDECODED RF Message
UNDECODED ARC:2D010000009040

But ID: 0100 did not work

It is useless for Domoticz. It is not and i'm reasonable sure it never will be implemented in Domoticz.
(better not ask for support in Domoticz as it will really upset gizmocuz  )

I just bought this controller by AliX And it works great under Domoticz when you learn each remote button as a on/off switch.

But i like it to use as a dimmer with a slider so i can make a blockly to set the brightnes, is this possibele?

Hi,

I am using a LED controller, which is in the first post. It works pretty well, unless that there is no dedicated on/off button on the remote.

Is there any way to setup a switch to use the dimmer function with Domoticz? A slider, or a 3 state button (100%, 50%, 25%) or a + - button.

On the remote I have 3 dedicated buttons for 100%, 50%, 25%.
100%
sudo ./codesend 16776967

50%
sudo ./codesend 16776968

25%
sudo ./codesend 16776969

...and a + - button.

I am also planning to buy this controller, where is a dedicated on/off button:
