what usb device is my zwave stick?

Post by wkossen »

Hi,

I recently got hold of an old zwave stick (aeotec series 2 black), and a zigbee sniffer, and I'm using p1 meter on usb too. How do i figure out what usb-port-name to use in domoticz to get the correct device talking to the correct hardware?

I found the p1 on ttyUSB1 (because the domoticz device updates correctly)

i think the zigbee stick is on /dev/ttyACM0 (at least, that is the zigbee2mqtt default. And it seems to work right now.

But this aeotect doesn't really identify itself. and i don't know what to look for. lsusb doesnt show anything recognizable. In Domoticz there is a ttyUSB1 and there is a ttyAMA0. There are a few others as well with very long names like: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-FTDI_FT232R_USB_UART_AG5DK2ML-if00-port0. In fact, when i connect the hardware in domoticz to any of those, it first tells me the manager is down. (cool. i don't like managers :/ ). and after a while it tells me openzwave version and gives me a setup button. does that mean it works? on any of those three ports? Or do i need another port? Any of these:

Do i need to do anything specific in that setup screen? this is all pretty hazy and unclear tbh... And the domoticz wiki page is very descriptive, but not very helpful as a step by step howto...

The openzwave site (github) suggests it needs installation, but im not sure. it could be bundled into domoticz as it is a library after all. it's not like a separate service like zigbee2mqtt. I'm never wrong, but i could be mistaken....

I can't really test it yet, since there is no zwave stuff here yet (but i'm planning to get some).

any pointers to useful documentation would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help
Cheers

thanks. that helped. now i could determine the aeotec is ttyUSB0.

also good to know that i can somehow force usb devices to be persistent. need to tinker a bit with that. i plan to add an usb hub to the pi as these sticks dont really fit well as it is. especially the aeotec, it blocks one of the usbs that i want the rfxcom to go on when it arrives. and when i plug these things into a hub, i bet they are going to get switched around again. sigh....

so the aeotec now works and it shows me a set of devices that apparently the previous owner of the stick had... weird. need to figure out how to remove those....

i also want to get an ssd soon as i don't want another sdcard disaster like i had last weekend. :(. i guess i'm going to buy an m.2 and a usb enclosure for it and put it on usb, unless someone tells me better ways to do it. and then i have to figure out how to actually get that working :/....

there is so much to figure out. i kinda like it, but it's also a large time-suck. and time is the one thing i don't have enough off.

thanks for the help!.
Cheers
