[Solved] Zigate controller and firmware upgrade to 031a

Post by JanZorz »

Hi,

Today I upgraded my Zigate USB controller to 031a (from 030e) - I did everything as described in manual and upgrade was executed without problems. Zigate plugin web interface tells me that Zigate was properly initialized with new firmware and is running fine. Domoticz Zigate version is 4.5.9, hardware is old one (blue).

Domoticz still tells me that there are 33 devices in inventory, but non of them is reporting anything. Scan of the network shows 0 devices connected.
Domoticz version is 4.11597, build hash: 70664be92

If I enable "Accept new hardware" - lights on controller does not start blinking. I also pressed the "Erase" button on web interface to "erase the permanent data memory of Zigate" in secret hope that I'll be able to re-pair - but to no avail. If I put it into "accept new hardware" mode and try to pair old devices - nothing happens.

Here is the part of log file:

Any idea how to get my devices back?

Please, help! :)

Cheers and thnx, Jan Zorz

Re: Zigate controller and firmware upgrade to 031a

What the log said is that you have miss-match between what is defined in the plugin DB ( /opt/domoticz/plugins/Domoticz-Zigate/Data/DeviceList-7.txt ) 11 devices and 33 were recently active in Zigate and what is in Domoticz.

So from here, I cannot really comment more than there is an inconsistency between the plugin DB and the Domoticz DB. The fct that you have done an ErasePDM, will require you to redo the pairing, but FIRST you need to fix the inconsistency. Either by removing all Zigate related devices in Domoticz and to start from scratch
Having the possibility to restart from a backup where there is Domoticz and Plugin consistency would help.
Did you upgrade the plugin ? if so from which version to which version ?

I did not upgrade the plugin meantime... I did "git pull", but no change of plugin version.
I'll try with restoring the backup and see if that works. Thank you a lot!

Having the possibility to restart from a backup where there is Domoticz and Plugin consistency would help.
Restored a backup from yesterday evening and same problem - no devices found. I even tried to pair new device, but to no avail. I tried to remove one device in Domoticz and re-pair it - also nothing... When I put controller in "Allow new hardware", led light on controller does not go into blinking mode. Is that a normal behavior?

To allow the pairing you need to enable it from the plugin.
When you start the plugin you can say permit to join for a number of seconds ( 255 means for ever )

Hey, thnx for your time and help.

It's set to 254, that's how I paired all zigbee devices up to now... I also have restart-on-save, but it doesn't matter how I restart or start the module - the controller does not go into blinking mode that up to now indicated that it is allowing new hardware.

Serial port is properly set and from log files it seems that the module initializes the controller - just not into "pairing" mode...

Any hint?

Cheers and thnx, Jan

ok, I removed all devices bound to Zigate controller from Domoticz, did a "Erase Persistent Data" from plugin setup screen, removed a plugin from Domoticz, shut down Domoticz, removed a Domoticz-Zigate directory from plugins directory, did again a git clone, started Domoticz, added Zigate plugin and now I have new "issues":

I'm currently not at the place where controller is so I can't try to include anything (will do that tomorrow morning), but as seen from logs - the whole thing is now not properly initialized :(

Linux is Ubuntu 19.04.

Any idea?

Thnx a lot!

I did again the flashing...

root@home:~/Zigate# ./JennicModuleProgrammer -V 6 -P 115200 -f ZiGate_Coordinator_v3.1a.bin -s /dev/ttyUSB0
JennicModuleProgrammer Version: 0.6 (r56124)
Setting baudrate: 115200
Detected Chip: Unknown
MAC Address: 00:15:8D:00:01:EE:04:C9
Opened firmware file size 206728
Module uses Bootloader v2 Header
Erasing: 100%
Writing Program to Flash
Writing: 100%
Verifying Program in Flash
Verifying: 100%
Success

Pull USB out and back in...

Ran the Zigate module with "Erase Persistent Data" to "True" for the first time after reflashing. Still same errors :(

Anyone?

From the log I do not see the Erase PDM, so could you try once more the Erase and then if still you have a problem share the logs

Problem fixed. I found a Windows machine and followed the process with Windows flashing application, including Erase EEPROM plus Complete EEPROM and everything and all of a sudden the thing started working in Domoticz.

Apparently Linux flashing app does not erase EEPROM succesfully - not if you follow the upgrade process from zigate.fr web site.

All in all - 031a works much better than original one, inclusion of devices is much faster and much more reliable. That's my first impression, let's see over time how it behaves.

Thank you very much for all your help!

The thing that I learned from all this was that Domoticz Zigate module does not erase EEPROM when you configure it, neither does it do over it's web interface. Tried both many times, with no success.

I tried through Domoticz Hardware plugin menu, many times - didn't work :(

On the other note - now all of a sudden my Zigate TTL USB controller died in the middle of a day... All lights went off and it doesn't matter to which USB on which machine I connect it - there is no lights whatsoever and no detection in OS that something connected. I think it's a HW failure.

Problem that I have is that there is no contact info on zigate.fr to contact them regarding the HW failure and possible replacement of device. I also can't register on their forum to ask a question there - so if you have any direct contact with Zigate folx - if you can give it to me to check if they honour the 2-year guarantee and replace my device. Maybe it's just a TTL USB module and the Zigbee part is ok...

Still wondering - if I replace just TTL USB part (blue in my case, red are the new ones) - would all my devices still be there and they'll just reconnect or will I have to do the whole pairing dance again?

Thank you very much for all your help, Jan Zorz
