What is 'on delay' and 'off delay'?

What is the purpose? Is it so that the button can be flicked back on (or off) quickly without causing the device to change state? Or another reason?

Well as an example I have a nighttime scene which I trigger by either pressing a button or via the Amazon Echo - what it does is to turn on a light in my hallway (so I can see my way up the stairs), turn off all the lights in my living room and then has a 30 second delay before it turns off the kitchen lights.

That way I can trigger the scene, walk out of my living room, walk into the kitchen to take any plates or cups out and then just go up to bed knowing that the living room lights will all be off and that the kitchen light will turn off after 30 seconds.

Hi all,

Using V4.9700 the Off Delay for a light/switch isn't working as described by emme.

My experiences:
Off Delay is the time in seconds the light/switch says On before it switches back to Off.
When you press the light/switch to On it waits Off Delay seconds before it is switched Off again automatically.
So it is not Off Delay but more like "Stay On for xx seconds"

On Delay for a light/switch works as expected but Off Delay doesn't.
This can't be intended, or is it?

So why is Off Delay different between a Light/Switch and a Group?

Sorry to resurrect an old topic.

I can't get either on or off delay to work for a (z-wave) switch. If I enter 60 seconds for both the specified actions always run instantly.

I'm running Version 4.10717 (May 9th 2019)

Any ideas?

I was trying to find out the same thing.
It seems that the on delay and off delay of a switch work different.
The off delay turns the switch off again (if switched to on) after x seconds
But the on delay is x seconds from flipping the switch to on and it actually being on.

To me that seems weird.
