I have a number of these sensors around the house. Recently, a couple of them have started playing up. I've tried changing batteries but it makes no difference.
Sensor one returns more or less random temperatures. Changing the adjustment in the device has no effect. I'm treating that one as failed.
Sensor two is more interesting as it flips between returning true temps and wildly pessimistic temps in the -80s. I've attached a screenshot showing the past day and month

Any idea what might be going on, or is it just another duff device?
The're not a little, squat white thing looking a bit like a flattened egg are they? I have two of them, not much in the way of a identification other than Model : XT200 on the back.
I got them both some years ago, cheap from some no-name supplier on eBay, cost about £3 each. In Domoticz they show up as Viking 02811/02813, Proove TSS330. Anyway they have never worked and like you say just give wildly fluctuating reading (right now it's apparently 126.5 degrees C in my living room whereas ten minutes ago it was -196).
If you leave them alone for a couple of hours, they stop reporting anything, take out and replace the batteries, and they reappear as a new device and so on.
They were so cheap that I can't be bothered to investigate much but whenever there is a firmware upgrade for the RFXCom which mentions Viking, I dig them out just to see.
So far, no luck, so back into the bits and pieces box they go....

No, these are like small bricks on their ends: 5 x 2 x 1cm

I’m coming to the same conclusion. The odd thing is that they were fine for a couple of years. Some of them still are OK.
Just an update on this because I've noticed something else odd with these.
I left them connected, but don't use them anymore. They have settled down and have stopped the wild fluctuations. However, I realised just now that their readings are inverted. Thus, one of them says the temp is currently -94C and is dropping. Looking at the curve, it's the inverse of what one would expect: high in the night (-90) and dropping during the day. Very odd.
