Air Quality Question

Post by febalci »

Hi all,

I already have a PM2.5 AQI Sensor at hand. It is very good with showing the air pollution indoors, esp. if someone smokes around i can definitely see it as the value goes up to 600. Otherwise it is between 20-40 which shows that it is OK.

However what i am trying to achieve is that my son sits in the his room playing video games or working on the computer, with his door shut (1st requirement of puberty for a teenager! ). And when i open the door, generally there's a thick air inside low oxygen or high humidity, i don't know what, but the PM2.5 still shows a value of 25 which is in excellent value zone! OK, as i understand it's got nothing to do with 2.5 micrometer particles; but how can i measure this? Should i use a CO2 sensor? A PM10 Sensor?

As i only have PM2,5 sensor at hand i roughly know now what it shows. But i still don't have any idea on CO2 and PM10. As i know a CO sensor looks for lpg or any other hazardous gases. Does anyone of you have any simple layman's terms on what each and every sensor type shows, as i do not have any scientific degree on pollution!

Also; what type of sensor to use in my son's room, to remind him of opening the door or window for some fresh air, besides opening his room door and yell him to leave the room door open  ?

Thanks...

CO2 sensor, I've got one and can definitely see when more people are in the room it goes up.

Look at getting a Netatmo Healthy Home Coach, Domoticz can get data from it every 10 minutes not to mention the extra sensors it has are fantastic value.

Well when i first read netatmo i was disappointed beacause of the prices of Netatmo products but fortunately, this is just in my budget. Thanks ben, your comment on more people just gave me hope on what i was looking for, I just need to make sure if netatmo is also handling this succesfully. Is there anyone who is currently using Netatmo Home Coach??

Can you use the home coach in combination with domoticz without the weather station?

Yes, I only have the Home Coach, it works either with the native Domoticz plugin or via a seperate bash script. It's been running now for about a year and I've been collecting quite a lot of useful data, I like being able to see the average sound level in the room as well as CO2, temperature and humidity.

It's probably my number one most useful sensor. Only thing is I wish it we're possible to get data from it faster than once per 10 minutes but that isn't really a huge problem.
