Ping time server domoticz

Post by guantolento »

Hallo to everyone. I have one question. If i take in cmd the command ping -t to the ip of Domoticz the respons is very variable. 3/4 packets in 2/3 ms, 1/2 in 30/40 ms, another 1/2 in 120/130 ms and so on.
The Domoticz server is a rpi2 with usb/wireless adapter.
The ping command is send from a desktop PC wired connect to the ruoter at 1 gb speed.
As usual in a internal lan i think the ping still more continous.
Someone can tell me something about? ??? Thanks a lot.

The ping is obviously over a wireless network with a lot of interference from your domestic appliances, hence the difference in ping latency. Ping over for instance a gprs network shows even much bigger differences in the latency. But actually that should not really be a problem. (May be a reboot of you ap helps)

Test with wired RPi. See if that helps, maybe you wifi dongle is damaged.
Check that nothing is running with high CPU on RPi, type "ps aux"

Good evening to everyone. I take some test. Now i ping the primary dns google 8.8.8.8 both from the rpi2 in wireless and from pc in wired.
This is the results:

RPI2

150 packets transmitted, 150 received, 0% packet loss, time 149142ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 40.371/43.426/93.684/5.173 ms

PC Desktop

154 packets trasmitted, 154 received, 0% packet loss
min/avg/max = 38/40/128 ms

in this situation i think the trasmission is the same from rpi2 on 100mbs than on pc desktop on 1 gbps.

If i try to ping an internal lan the situation change:

RPI2 ping the router in 1.8 /7.4 ms
PC Desktop ping the router in 1.0 ms costant
