Which wireless system should I use for controlling switches, dimmers, sensors, ...

Z-wave ?
RFXCOM ?
... ?

which one is better / cheaper / relyable / easier / ... ?

I'll be running Domoticz on my Synology DS414 NAS ...

so which USB-stick should I get to set up the wireless stuff ?

please advise which is the "best" way to go and why ...

The best way to go is to start by thinking about what you want to controll, and then see what can be used to controll those..

normal stuff, like garage door, dimmers, wall switches, temp sensors, doorlocks ...

Cheap via kaku or similar. More control using zwave

The main advantages of Zwave are a) active state feedback to the controller (especially important for garage doors etc, with kaku you only know you have sent a command, not if it is executed ) and b) great reange because the zwave nodes communicate with eachother, passing through commands. Disadvantage is the higher price.

Also, you aren't limited to just one system. You can use a RFXCOM for devices that are not 'mission critical'. And combine it with a Z-Wave stick for devices where you need more reliability (like the garage door that 'pwhooftman' mentioned).

I use both the RFXCom and ZWave.

For sensors (X10 motion, temp, etc) I use the RFXCom and for dimming and switching ZWave stuff.
I tested the KaKu/CoCo dimmers but the ZWave dimmers are far superior in features and quality.
And they also provide status feedback for Domoticz.

And it doesn't stop there, you can also connect Hue lamps etc. So in the end it will always be a combination of protocols.

Can I use two transceiver modules in one raspberry system? I am already running Razberry and want to extend with an enocean usb module. Anybody who can help?
