Which recent zwave thermostat works fine with OZW as well as zwave_js ?

Post by hvoorend »

I’m in the following situation and would gladly have some of your advice:
Current setup: Running Domoticz 2023.1 on Raspberry Pi 2 + ÆON z-stick 5 + RFXCOM. Sensor communication still mainly OZW based.
I am about to install electrical underfloor heating and would like to have that controlled through Domoticz.
In addition my conventional CV heating boiler needs to be replaced soon (for most likely Remeha Tzerra or Intergas Xtreme 36.)
To be able to control both heat sources in the near future, I was thinking to use a zwave thermostat (or do I need two?) that properly integrate(s) with Domoticz. I’ve found that the HeatiT Z-TRM3 for instance does not properly work with Domoticz due to an OZW-issue.
Does it properly work with zwave-js/MQTT ? I know I have to put in the effort to move away from OZW since it’s depricated, but would rather do that on my own pace. So would be nice to have a thermostat that works with Domoticz/OZW for now and keeps working after migration to zwave-js/MQTT.
Which thermostat(s) would you recommend for my situation? Any other advice / recommendations on the total possible solution are much appreciated. Thanks in advance !

I was advised against Remeha in 2018, a bit plastic fantastic. My brother in law installed a Nefit Trendline and a Nefit Easy thermostat. The Easy thermostat is connected to Domoticz by NefitEasyHTTPServer. It does not use Z-Wave.

Nefit = Bosch. Prior to the Nefit, there was a Junkers, which is also Bosch. The Junkers had been heating my home for 22 years (since 1996) and was still going strong. Just not too economical.

Thanks memyself for your response.
I recently integrated my Honeywell Lyric T6 (now Resideo) into Domoticz.

Code: Select all

Unfortunately setpoint control does not work well for this type.
Apart from that, I still wonder if I should best install a separate (zwave) thermostat to be able to independently control my (electrical) floor heating from Domoticz. I do think so ? And if so, does anyone have recommendations on which one? (needs to work with Domoticz/OZW for now and needs to keep working after migration to zwave-js/MQTT).

I have a Qubino Module that works well enough. Also includes a temp sensor input. It's not really recent though although not much Zwave is now, try buying an E27 light bulb..
