Kwikset Door Lock Partially Functioning?

Post by SunshineFats »

So, I know I'm new so I'll try to keep this brief. I got a Kwikset Convert 914c (Z-Wave discontinued model-that's why it was cheap), and have been attempting to get it working. Initially, I could pair it, but repeatedly received OpenZwave timeouts when attempting to send commands, and the status(e.g. Locked/Unlocked) never changed. Of course, the lock did not actually lock or unlock either. So...

after doing some reading, I added a beaming repeater(just to be safe because I figured it wouldn't hurt to have one regardless), and it didn't help. So...

I did a lot more reading, and eventually removed the device, set a network key, then re-added the device as a secure node. This seems to have helped a bit. I got a lot more(e.g. what I believe to be the correct) switches, statuses, etc. And, for the most part, the status of the lock will update to reflect the state the lock is in. Plus, there are 2 repeaters total between the lock and the hub, and I've also tried it with the lock taken out of the door and placed right next to the hub. Soooo...

Did a lot more reading and checked the logs as I was testing, and current status is that I get an OpenZWave error that states:
Error: OpenZWave: Value_Changed: Tried adding value, not succeeded!
So, to me, this implies it is not a communication issue per se...
Soooooo....did a lot more reading and couldn't really find an answer, so I decided to register here and ask some folks who are very likely smarter than me. :)

It seems as if the lock is expecting one thing, and getting something different, or perhaps vice versa and it's domoticz, but either way I'm thinking that the lock simply isn't fully supported(it is not specifically included in the manifest after all, although several of it's cousins are).
Does this sound right?
Or am I missing something?
Any and all help or suggestions would be appreciated...I'm kinda out of ideas.

[EDIT]
So I did have 1 more idea...
I hard reset all devices, including controller, wiped Domoticz from my machine, and started totally over.
Turns out....that worked! Well, kinda...
The lock still gives that openzwave error, but is now responding(mostly) to lock/unlock commands.
And of course, the status of the lock is still a little sketchy(as before).
But for the most part, it works, so I'm satisfied with that for now.
Just thought I'd update the topic for posterity.
If I figure anything useful out about the status or the error, I will update with that info as well.
Oh! And am using the stable release, in case anyone was wondering.
And I added the repeater first, then the lock, then all the other devices. Don't think that really made a difference, but one never knows.

I have the 911, which is the model below that one, but they work similarly. I've had it for years and I can tell you it's got it's quirks. 1st off mine is very near my hub. It never got good signal. Also it's old Z-wave, so it can only repeat through one node even if it could get good signal. It sends and receives a lot of data, which often loses it's way between the lock and the hub if they aren't near by. The kwikset locks have never been fully set up to work with domoticz. I'm back on the old stable version of domoticz from years ago when open z-wave was 1.4. The lock doesn't work with the new OZW 1.6. I had to write a bunch of scripts but I got it so domoticz will send me a notification when someone locks or unlocks the door, and even who's door code was use. Even after pouring dozens of hours of scripting into the thing it's still not perfect but just good enough. Some times my server tells the lock to lock at night and it still doesn't, even though it reports back that it did. So my tips are this, keep it close to the hub and use an older version of domoticz that is still on OZW 1.4. Just a disclaimer, as I'm sure you're aware, going to an older version of Domoticz means you need to start with a fresh database. On a side note the lock is a battery hog. I got a special power supply and soldered it to the battery contacts of the lock because I got tired of changing the batteries all the time.
