DIY Irrigation System with Node-Red
I took my old irrigation system and replaced the old manual ball valves with electric ones. I buried some wire from the back of my yard, where my raspberry pi is, to the front where the valves are. Then I connected the valves to an 8 channel relay from amazon that is controlled over the gpio pins on the raspberry pi. After everything was wired up a quick test run showed that it worked like a charm. After a quick google search, I found an irrigation project on the Node-Red website that provided just what I had in mind. So I took the flow and altered it to my needs and also built in a rain-check that polls my dark-sky sensor from Homeassistant and skips its duty-cycle if its raining. Luckily the creator of the flow also provided a neat little UI in Node-Red that suits my needs. After I checked that everything works correctly I installed some neat casing for the pi and the relays to increase the overall WAF. There are definitely things to improve in the future, for example, I would want to get rid of the Node-Red UI and build something in Homeassistant
