Power usage Device self learning recognition ?

Post by freijn »

Talking to my colleague I learned a nice new possible feature.

Imagine the following :
My refrigerator goes on and off regularly. It always uses let assue 60 watts.
My coffee machine goes on and off regularly. It always uses let assue 1900 watts.
And of course there are many more devices which could be detected by its usage.

Would it be nice to monitor the P1 interface and detect if the usage goes up with 60 watts
its the coffee machine. Same applies to the coffee machine.
If we could write a script which is able to detect same usage amount of spikes in the P1 and
give it a self-learning name like device 1 and device 2 then after a week you must be able to
recognize "It's the coffee machine" ! :-) and rename it in the script.
Of course when it's recognized we can run nice graph's about usage and costs.

Anyone like the idea and like to brainstorm with me on how to implement this?
or...... is it a stupid idea? ( not possible to get it to work? )

Please respond if you like ,

Cheers,
Frank
