Alternate Scene control

Post by ronaldbro »

Because I have a different opinion how a scene should work I decided to create my own 'scene control' script.

The main reasons to do this are:
- I already needed a dummy switch to activate the scene from Homekit
- I want to know the "real" state of the scene. Domoticz only looks if the devices are 'On' and not to the given setpoint. When I have a scene which also sets a light off the state will be 'Mixed'. In my opinion 'Mixed' is just off. I'm only interested if a scene is active or not. And active means all devices are in the state as defined in the scene, so On/Off, dim level, color, etc.
- For some scenes I want to be able to switch them off. This basically means switch every device off, so no invert of the scene.
(Basically I want the Homekit way of working with scene's)
- To set the security state I need a script that performs a post activate action. I want to set security state in the goodnight and good morning scene

I have finished my first version of the script. It now contains the following functionality:
- I can configure multiple scenes in the same script. (The SCENES table on top)
- Every scene uses a dummy scene switch
- switches, dimmers, Tradfri and Philips Hue with color temperature are now supported
- When I set the lights manually to the correct setpoints the scene switch automatically switches on
- I can set if it's allowed to switch off the state.
- A scene can have an automatic change of dim level and/or color temperature during time

Todo list:
- Add timer trigger

I'm already happy with the script although I don't have it in production yet. Need to include the security feature first.

If anyone have any comments then please don't hesitate ;)
This is my first more advanced and generic script, so probably the are plenty of improvements.

@ronaldbro, thanks for sharing. I see some nice examples of Lua and dzVents features and techniques. Have to study in more detail but I am sure that I will borrow some of them :D
Are you aware that the code above

Code: Select all

return {

	on = {
		devices = sceneControl.triggerDevices(),
is evaluated at every event and the triggerDevices function in the on = section is executed on every event ? So on any device or variable update in the system and every minute. On my system that is on average about 40 times a minute.
If your system is sized big enough it will not harm but if code can be moved to a place evaluated less frequent I would consider that.

Hi Waaren,

I wasn’t aware that it was evaluated that much, thought it was only evaluated on a device change. I copied this principle from ideAlarm.
If you have any suggestion how to optimize it then please let me know. I really don’t know another way except adding the list of devices again, but that’s what I want to avoid.

Would it be an option to name the devices that need to trigger the script in such a way that you could use a wildcard in the on = devices section ?
Move all tables, vars and functions that are only needed within the script below

Code: Select all

	execute = function(dz, item, info)

Renaming devices because the are in a scene is not an option. That will make it very unclear. I also don’t like using device names in the scripts. In the global data I have a list of variables containing the idx numbers and I use them in all the scripts. This makes it clear in the code and it’s easy to maintain. (Too bad there’s no dzvents precompiler)

Don’t really understand what you main with moving the variables below execute. They are needed in the trigger.

Anyway, at this moment I have no performance problem so I think it’s best to keep it like this. And probably when I learn more about dzvents I’ll also learn some good optimizations :)

But thanks for thinking along, I appreciate it.

I updated my scene control script in the first message.
Improvements:
- Using the new DzVents command for setting and reading kelvin values
- Automatic change of kelvin and dim level during the day. (For example the lights get a warmer color and a little darker towards the end of the night)

The script is running for a year now and I'm still happy with it :)

Have you updated this script since?
I love the concept of it and have the same use case for Homekit/homebridge :D

Sorry for the late reply, but no I don't have an updated script. Still works like a charm :)

The script is far from perfect, but it works for all my lights. Let me know if you experience any problems, maybe I can help. Ans if you have improvements then please share them.
