I have installed Domoticz on Synology (through the jadahl-repository), and I have been playing around with it. I have noticed however that the HDD's do not go into hibernation anymore. I have searched this forum a bit, and this seems to be caused by write-actions to the log-file (in my test-setup mainly from openweathermap and internal sensors such as CPU or memory), but i've also found a reference to the database-file that would of course be written to whenever a switch is pressed.
Is it possible to move these files to a USB-drive I attach to the NAS, or perhaps it is possible to install Domoticz completely on the USB-drive? This to allow the HDD's to stop spinning for most of the time.
Synology: allowing HDD to hibernate Topic is solved

Re: Synology: allowing HDD to hibernate
log can be setted up in a different directory
but I'm not sure about DB... Domoticz write both DB and log.... I assume the disks will not go into hybernation... unless you do not install Domoticz completely on a USB key

The most dangerous phrase in any language is:
"We always done this way"
"We always done this way"

Is it possible to install it completely on a USB-drive? When I install the package I do not get an option I think...emme wrote:log can be setted up in a different directory

Re: Synology: allowing HDD to hibernate
I tried that, running completely from USB stick. Still no HD hibernation.
Then, upon guidelines of Synology, I disabled all packages, NTP, NFS, allmost everything was disabled. My nice nas had just become a dumb network drive. Still, no HD hibernation.
Last thing I removed was the RFXCOM and Zwave S2 stick, bam, hibernation.
As soon as I plugged in the zwave stick hibernation was gone.
Then I moved my Domoticz back to a RPi3, just for power conservation. My DS1513+ consumes about 60W (ca €132/year)...
But to answer your question: yes it can be done. Manually copy over the files, create symlink,...

I'll also be attaching a RFXCOM tranciever, but not a Z-Wave-stick. I'll try it out, but I've also been thinking if it isn't possible to get a Pi. The power consumption on those is incredibly low, especially if you can connect it with ethernet-cable and therefore disable Wifi and Bluetooth.

Re: Synology: allowing HDD to hibernate
Even if you can get the hardrives to hibernate the power consumption of a nas will still be more than a Pi.
Even if it's as low as 10W you would get benefit of buying a RPi and have a ROI of approx 3-4 year. Every watt your nas consumes more shall shorten that period.

Thats true, though my DS212J is very low on power, a RPi would indeed still be cheaper to run.Egregius wrote:Even if you can get the hardrives to hibernate the power consumption of a nas will still be more than a Pi.
