Audible alarms throughout the home.

Post by Scones »

I'm looking for suggestions on how I can produce audible alarms around the home.

For example, I have a door sensor on the garage door, and I would like to announce to the house when the door opens.

I am already using Squeezebox/Squeezelite/PiCorePlayer boxes throughout the house and have considered using that. The two problems I have with this is that
  1. I would need to keep all of my speakers on all the time, e.g. the home stack system. Also some speakers sleep if they're don't play music for a while
  2. I don't know how to generate the sounds and have them interrupt a playlist, or play if the player is off, or ..... a dozen other cases
Being able to play different alarm sounds would probably be enough, especially having pre-recorded MP3 files, but voice to text would also be nice.
