I am a complete noob but i have added a GE dimmer no problem but i cant get these door/window sensors to work!
I am running a RPi with a aeotec z-wave newest one, usb. i bought 5 aeotec d/w sensors and i have added 2 of them but i cant seem to get them to show changes (updating). i have read a bunch of different things on the forum but i am beyond frustrated!! some of the things i tired was going into "groups and network" and adding them to group 1 but no help. i also tried playing with the "report" setting for the devices one is set for 17 another is set at 16 which it was set for 256 ( i think). im done trying to gues what to do! i am a technical person so this shouldnt be so hard but any please help!!
thanks!

Re: Trying to Add Door Sensors :(
So I think overall the main issue is nothing seems to be updating properly. The dimmer doesn't seem to update properly either but not concerned about that right now I want to get the door sensors first.
I tried looking around for a setup guild or something and I couldn't find anything. I wanted to try and find something with all the steps, basic and otherwise. I think I am missing something basic and it's very frustrating.
Anyone?

you add them as a contact switch type? do you see the led on the sensor trigger when you move the magnets?
are you testing them near your controller or installed?

Re: Trying to Add Door Sensors :(
So I found the problem! I added the Sensors as secure and the weren't updating. I added one as regular and it's working fine. Damn!
Now to work on the blocky etc. do you know of any good examples?

depends on what you want to do with your door sensors, my front door turns on lights in mudroom if dark, exterior security lighting if they are off, takes an image off the security camera and alerts my phone if its not @ home.
back door will turn off the furnace if its left open for longer than 5mins, then restore the furnace after its been closed for half an hour.. along with alot of things the font door does.
A good starting point is a notification if the door is left open for an unacceptable amount of time.. then work from there.
