Virtual switch to tell nest thermostat we're away?

Post by n1c0l45 »

Hi
Finally I found a brand new nest gen2 sealed in its box for 100usd....so.... I get it :D
Now, I don't want to use the GPS position on my wife and I phones to tell nest I'm away but we both have Bluetooth Beacon on our chainkey to tell domoticz we're out. I would like to know if there's a way to make a virtual switch in domoticz that change the nest status to away?
Thanks for your help
Nic

It's probably not the most fun answer, but the Nest does that automagically:

1. With the motion sensor it has on-board;
2. In the App you can use your GPS-location of your phone as well to determine home/away.

So, why build something that's already there ;) (I know, I know, this is way less fun :P)

lol, thanks for the answer, I know that but as i said, i don't want to use the gps position on the app to tell i'm away, because it drains battery and also because my son doesn't have a sell phone, just a bluetooth beacon on its schoolbag ;)

A fast Google search shows that it must be possible with a curl: https://developers.nest.com/documentati ... -structure

When you add your Nest to Domoticz it's will represent the state of the on-board motionsensor of the Nest (what it uses to determine home/away) by an 'On/Off' sensor which you could use as a motion sensor in Domoticz.

Works brilliantly here :)
