15 questions about Z-Wave in Domoticz

Post by Evelen »

1. Is it any way to update the UZB1 stick firmware? The RFXtrx433 can be updated in the "hardware" -> "Set mode", but not the Z-Wave stick (I have Version: 1.3-526)

2. Is any information about connected nodes stored in the stick or is all config/data stored in domoticz?

3. What is the diffrence between "Include node" and "Include node secure""?

4. I have 2 unknown devices since I first installed the controller, what are these?

Code: Select all

Node Id	Basic Type	Generic Type	Product	Name	Location	Value	Last Heard	Status
1 *LB	Static Controller	Static PC Controller	Z-Wave.Me ZME_UZB1 USB Stick	Controller 23.38.35	Ready
2 LBR	Slave	Binary Power Switch Unknown off	23.38.35	Dead
3 LBR	Slave	Binary Power Switch Unknown off	23.38.36	Dead
5. What does the "Heal Network" button do ? Also, it says "OpenZWave: Heal Network command initiated..."
And how do i know when the "healing" is complete?

6. It is also posible to heal just one node, how is this different?

7. Do all non-battery-powered devices repeate the signal? and do non of the battery-powered devices repate the signal?
quote from a manual:
Every mains powered Z-Wave
enabled device acts as a signal repeater and multiple devices result in more possible
8. If I change the physical location of my devices, will Z-Wave find the new route automaticly or do I have to do something?

9. I Hear I have to have devices close to the interface when I include them, why? and what Is the consequences if I dont?

10. What do this cirle show? Am I right if I say it shows the available routes for the nodes?

11. Is it posible to "ping" a node or somthing so I can go around and find a spot that is in range? (just like I can pung a computer in a WLAN)

12. Non of my battery-powered devices are reporting signalstrength, is it posible to see this?

13. "Last Seen time" on switshes is always the last time the switsh was switched, is ut posible to update last-seen-time whitout switshing the switsh? (so I can se if it's online)

14. What is the "Type", "chame" (I have heard) example: "Lighting 2"?

15. Is it "risk free" to update OpenZWave?

I don't know all the answers, i will try to answer what i know.

1. Depends on the stick. I can update my Aeon labs stick. Inform at the manufacturer of your UZB1 stick if it can be updated. My Aeon labs stick needs to be updated through a Windows utility.

5. As far as i know, this sends a command throughout your whole network to try to wake up dead/sleeping nodes. I also once read that it lets the nodes explore their routes to the controller. With this it could be possible to force nodes to route through a node you just added. I'm also interested in knowing when the healing is done.

6. Not possible as far as i know. I think the healing process will bypass the nodes that are already alive.

7. Depends on the brand & type. In theory: yes. But i have had Greenwave plugs that only repeated eachother and not Z-Wave nodes from other brands :S For battery powered nodes i think it is true, otherwise the battery would be empty quickly

8. That is something you can use the 'Heal network' function for, was told me. That will evaluate the routes between nodes.

9. I think it makes it easier to include them because there is a direct route between the new node and the controller. If you try to include the node at the other end of your house, it will probably be more difficult.

10. That circle shows you the 'quality' of your Z-Wave mesh network. The colored edges (with numbers) represent your nodes. In a ideal setup, everything is connected with everything, so that data from a node far away from the controller, can hop from node to node untill it finally arrives at the controller. Those node 2 and 3 look a bit weird, they are not connected to anything. I would delete them and maybe include the again if something stops working.
By hovering with your mouse on a colored edge, you can see how the route from that node to the controller is achieved.

11. Not possible as far as i know. If it still returns data when you have the node at that spot, it will work.

12. The signalstrength is only for 433Mhz devices i thought.

13. Good question, but i think that if you have a device that also reports other values (like temperature or kWh), the last update time of that value will also be valid for the switch.

14. This is not Z-Wave related, but the way Domoticz handles the switches.

15. In theory you could break your Z-Wave, which in the worst situation could mean that you need to hard reset your controller, include all your nodes again and losing historical data.
But actually i update Openzwave frequently (i'm also on Ubuntu Server) and didn't experience any problems so far.
To update my Domoticz & Openzwave with only one command, i have made this script. Call it like this: echo YOURPASSWORDHERE | sh zwave_and_domo_updater.sh

You have to change the paths in the script, to those of your Zwave and Domoticz location :)
And you can remove the Monit lines because you don't seem to have Monit installed.

1.3-526 is not the firmware on the UZB1 its the openzwave version. Presuming you have this: http://z-wave.me/index.php?id=28 you would find the necessary resources here http://z-wave.me/index.php?id=14

I updated my razberry (also from Z-wave me) via their program for raspberry pi, from what i read it should be possible to update UZB the same way.

Hi

I'm trying to update the firmware on my UZB1 stick too but I can't find anything at that link that helps, all I can see is

UZB related Ressources
-Windows Device Driver for UZB
-Script to change Operating Frequency

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks
