Timing errors using power line adapter

Post by PeterPal »

Hi guys
my situation, Domotics running on a synology DS112J in my office. Via Powerline (running around 200 MBit) a Youless and a KMTronic is connectet to my network from an other room. Pingtime is around 5-7ms, sometimes for 1-3 pings around 10ms. In this situation i get the whole day theese in the error log:

2016-06-17 09:30:41.487 Error: YouLess: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.99
2016-06-17 09:30:56.365 Error: KMTronic: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.98
2016-06-17 09:31:01.595 Error: YouLess: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.99
2016-06-17 09:31:16.475 Error: KMTronic: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.98
2016-06-17 09:31:21.706 Error: YouLess: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.99
2016-06-17 09:31:36.586 Error: KMTronic: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.98
2016-06-17 09:31:41.816 Error: YouLess: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.99
2016-06-17 09:31:56.696 Error: KMTronic: Error connecting to: 192.168.178.98

Inside Domoticz all seems to work perfectly, i get the correct Datas and diagrams and so on.

If i make a connection via patchcable between my switch in the office and the switch in the other room, there are no errors (pingtime <2ms).
For me it looks like a timing issue inside Domoticz - may that be?
At the moment i have no direkt cable connection to the other room and would like to avoid it :)

My bee you have any tip for me how to fix it.

Best Regards
Peter

Are you running the ling at the time you get these errors?
Maybe try running a Ping with a larger packet so you replicate the real world a bit better as it could be that larger packets get corrupted during transmission.

Hello Jos,
here some results:

ping -s 1024 192.168.178.98

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 29.229/30.776/36.291/2.008 ms

ping 192.168.178.98
PING 192.168.178.98 (192.168.178.98): 56 data bytes

^C

6 packets transmitted, 6 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 4.948/5.387/5.717/0.323 ms

So if the packets go bigger, the pingtime is longer, but no packets lost. The xxx.98 is the KMTronic interface
During this Pinge there have been no error inside Domoticz. I will have a look when the error will come up.

Best Regard
Peter

Hi,
The error ist alwas active. Sometime there is for more than 10h no error, some times about 20 erros per hour. I have switches of the powersave option of the syno, erros allways there. I have 4 survilance cams, but during the errors there have been no motion detection and therefore there is not so much traffic in the network. I think, to get the error log much cleaner, i only can connect the syno on the other side oh the powerline connection. But in this case a can no more use my GB Network connection :?

May be there is someone who has the same problem and may be a solution.

Best Regards
Peter

Are you using surveillance station on the Syno?
Then motion or no motion doesn't matter, the stream is always transmitted.

Hi,
No, i am using motion eye on a raspi and only if motion is detected pictures are uploaded.
So there is only traffic at motion detection. Normaly the syno runs with < 3% cpu load. Some times it rised up to 90 % during backup work. But during this time there are no problems with the youless or the kmtronic board. At the moment i can not dectect when and why these problems are comming up.

What powerline adapters do you use? Are there any powersave options in there?

About motion: Have a look at pikrellcam. Really nice motion detection software based on vectors instead of change in light.

I´m using TP-LINK Powerline adapter. Powersaving.. i dont think so because at the "other side" in the utility room there are two raspberry´s running + youless, one raspi for the MotionEye suvilance cams and one other for Flightradar24 which is providing 24h datas for flightradar. And the router is located in the office so the network has 24h less and more traffic.

I think, for me this case is closed, i will not invest any money into other hardware. I will install during winter time a cable connection between my office and the utility room and then this issue is fixed.
