Heavily frustrated with FGRM-222 and Sunmaster

Post by finalcut62 »

I run a hybrid Rfxcom based 433Mhz network and Zwave (Aeon Z2 USB stick) on a Domoticz-pi. Works perfectly almost 100% of the time. The only minor setback so far is that it requires a nightly (cron based) reboot in order to keep the Zwave system up and running all the time.

Until today I used a Kaku (coco) ASUN-650 controlling our Sunmaster sun shade (awning). Worked fine. That is: until my wife sort of insisted we need manual control of the Sunmaster too "because how can we explain to our neighbors how the systems works when they mind the house". Not that we've had a need for our neighbors to control the sun shade in the past 20 years, but hey women =/= logic. And the kaku system does not provide any manual switch control. So I got mysel a Fibaro FGRM-222, as I prefer ZWave over Kaku, if only by the tons of switches I now see popping up from the houses around me. As I can control their switches, they could control mine.

Now this Fibaro device has cost me hours and hours by now. It's installed, connected and I can control all items through the domoticz interface and through the OpenZwave control panel. But somehow, it just doesn't function as expected. When calibrating, the shade extends as expected (100%), retracts 100%, but then extends and stops at 20%. And then for a long while nothing works any more. I hear the relay clicking when selecting the functions manually but the motor doesn't work anymore. Then, after some 15 minutes I can start controlling the shade again, but if start calibration the same thing happens. I've tried a lot of settings (motor thresholds etc.) but aside from the fact that I can guess what I'm doing, I'm pretty much clueless how to get this going. I will buy a Qubino to test an alternative, but I'd rather try the community here before sinking more €€€ into my domotica pit...

Anyone more clueful than I am?

*edit* It could by that awning is to blame; the motor may be meeting too much resistance and is shutting off during operation

Isn't your motor temp safety kicking in during calibration due to getting to warm?
You could check whether there is still 230V on the power out pins of the switch.
This is the only reason I can think of why the motor would stop for a short period and then work again.
