Hardware

Post by planetf1 »

Hi,
I'm a newbie to domoticz but have it installed on my raspberry pi and hooked up to my Philips Hue setup. Nice.

I also have some lightwaveRF plugs (433 Mhz) plus am looking at temp/humidity sensors too (433)

Are there any gotchas as to what hw to get for 433? I'd seen the rfxtrx433e and figured I'd use that, but then realised I could just get the simple 433 modules and have as much, if not more functionality for a fraction of the price - right?

So something like this would be fine? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/433Mhz-RF-tra ... 1398117340

Is there anything else I'd need from a HW perspective in terms of connecting up to the pi (I'm a software engineer not hardware....!). Just some connectors for the pins? I've read http://shop.ninjablocks.com/blogs/how-t ... spberry-pi previously...

or would a pre-built board work as well? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361473129237 - or would this be more limited in terms of control?

thanks
Koensk

I have them both.
So the 2 things from ebay and the rfxcom-e

The rfxcom works like a charm and handles more than the separate receiver and sender module.
If it's only to switch your rf-plugs and your able to hook those 2 things on your GPIO your good to go.

If you want to have it more easy and error-free, just buy the rfxcom. It even found my metrix fireplace and an outside temperature and humiditysensor which are not even mine but I guess neighbors :D

I did get the rfxcomm device.. Perfect with lightwave rf remote/sockets. now going to experiment with temp/humidity, pir, relays & other such devices... would be nice if one could add new decodes. for now I'll either go supported, or get devices with easy return policies (like amazon... as I did for temp/humidity)... and see what works. I know lightwaverf seems fine (within it's device/protocol limits)
