Hi all,
I would like to know what electronics you guys are using to measure energy around the house.
I am very interested in how to monitor the power consumption per wall outlet as I would like to know how my power consumption is divided in the house.
I would also like to monitor my room light. I have currently no idea how to put any hardware in these lines as these are all in the wall (or behind a wall switch)
Any help/information is very much appreciated
regards,
Ronald

I use Z-Wave wall plugs to monitor power usage, there are several that do this.

These days : z-wave connection : greenwave 6 plus and AN158 wall sockets. Before zwave I used standalone energy meters per wall socket that display the usage. As I had high energy usage before, I spent a day with these standalone meters to connect them manually between each switch and utility in the house, room-by-room to make a complete inventory. Of course you have to be careful and know what you are doing exactly. I am sure there are better ways now, but it was the best I could do at that moment. I really helped me to understand reasons for my high usages and the actions to take to reduce it. With zwave I now monitor and control the high energy users and work to reduce the consumption even more.

Hi paulvha,
What standalone meters did you use ? (model, brand) and was it enough accurate to measure very small consumption ? Like the consumption of mobile charger connected to the Wall but not in use (around 0,x Wh). Was the instantaneous measure true ? Was this consumption taken into consideration into the sum of the day ?
thank you,

I had bought mine at Kijkshop (nl) : Cresta. very accurate, indeed down to the 2w and 2 digits behind the digital comma. They don't seem to have them on the webstore. I saw others bought at stores like Gamma. Praxis etc. That said the AN138 I also accurate, goes down to the 2w and with Domoticz gives me the Wh.

Ok thanks.
So this isnt enough accurate to hunt the energy wastage of electrical equipment in standby mode.

for sure it does. 1 or 2 watt can be measured. When I plug in my phone charger to the Cresta and see 0.09W... (just did that to test
)
