[Issue] Rigging my Pi for Domoticz and the bughunt

Post by Ruud033 »

Hello people,

Today I wanted to rig my SD card with domoticz-raspberrypi-sdcard-3530.7z from http://sourceforge.net/projects/domoticz/

Installation, copying etc.. all went well, except for the first login..
At the end of the boot sequence it prompts me to enter my login credentials (pi - raspberry) in the console.

I can enter my username (pi) just fine, however, when I try to enter the password, nothing appears! I see the small typing-dot-thing flickering when I press keys but it does not enter any characters on screen! :( I can't figure out why it's doing this, my computer / keyboard is just fine (If it would be broken, I also would not be able to enter the username and do other stuffs right?)

Is anyone experiencing the same issue? not being able to enter the password at first login?

To overcome this, I've tried to first run a clean install of Raspbian. That goes really well, it immediately boots to desktop. However, when I do a manual install of Domoticz after the clean Raspbian install, I get stuck on installing node.js. When following the instructions on https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/MQTT (and the linked page http://joshondesign.com/2013/10/23/noderpi) and checking the version or doing anything node.js/npm related, I always get 'illegal instructions' as a reply. VERY FRUSTRATING

After googling quite a bit, I found out that the 'illegal instructions' prompt comes forth out of node.js (https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/283)

So, to NOT use the 'preloaded SD Image' which has the password error in it, I've tried to fix node.js by downloading some versions of it, and trying several methods from different sites.. nothing worked really.

In the end, I'm clueless about what to do, all I need is a working Pi with domoticz so I can control my relays!?
I've got the model B+
