Eurotronic Comet z-wave Thermostat does not seem to work

Post by dacora »

Hi All.

So I've installed a Eurotronic Comet z-wave Thermostat and I can find it and see it in domotiz.
I've also been able to set the wakeup time alright.

However I am not sure if setting the setpoint works.

Here is a log from setting it:

Code: Select all

I notice that when it calls the ThermostatSetpointCmd_Get it seems to fail. Could that cause the thermostat to not set the setpoint?

Also do I need to make a manufacturer specific xml file or is it sufficient to use the zwcf_****.xml one, which I assume was generated by openzwave itself?

Yeah saw that one. I was the one asking for it

Anyway. Someone made a commit to the repo with the xml:

https://github.com/domoticz/domoticz/co ... a2ce2f5699

So I used that one and it work. I assume it will find its way to the stable at some point

Be aware that the setpoints are not read out. You have to set them in the Domoticz GUI. This is beacause THERMOSTAT_SETPOINT are not in the polling list of Domotiz. By the way there is now a new config version pulled to the OpenZwave github https://github.com/OpenZWave/open-zwave/pull/710

I'm trying to get the Comet Z-Wave working with my Aeon Labs Gen-5 usb stick and it seems to function OK using the Domoticz OpenZWave Control Panel. I set the wakeup time to the minimum 240 seconds (4 minutes) and in the Control Panel is see the device waking up every 4 minutes, however in Domoticz the setpoint devices and thermometer don't seem to update every 4 minutes. The 'last seen' just isn't being updated.

Also the devices that are added are 3 stepoints and 1 thermometer. No device to set the operation mode from Economy to Comfort.

Update: removed all devices so they are re-added upon a new scan and now I see more updates coming by which is good. Still no switch in Domoticz to switch operation mode, but I can probably manage by just adjusting the current set-point.

Hi scrappy,

I have the same setup as you have (domoticz, Aeon stick Gen 5 and Comet Z-wave). Can you explain (step by step) how you removed and re-added the devices? I'm pretty new to Domoticz ánd Z-wave, so this is one big mystery for me.

Thanks for helping!

Hi Rick,
to remove the devices go to the devices screen, select the devices you want to remove and then press the uber-small-hardly-visible-trash-can-icon (the one next to the invert-selection arrow in the header of the table, look closely, it took me ages to find it).

I don't know what exactly happened with my setup yesterday, but for some reason the temperature sensor failed and it got really warm in my room. Maybe it was due to the batteries running empty. This morning I switched batteries, removed all devices again and now it seems to work ok.

Thanks for your reply scrappy. Unfortunately, I doens't seem to work great. The Thermostat is recognized in Domoticz

003 (0x03) Radiator EUROtronic EUR_COMETZ Wall Radiator Thermostat Valve Control 2016-01-09 13:44:03 Yes

But as you can see, the last time it was seen, was two days ago. I cannot change Wake-up interval (is set to 604620). When I change it, it automatically changes back to 604620. I removed the devices as you said, but they aren't coming back.

And can you maybe explain which devices you have now in Domoticz and how you control the thermostat?

Thanks again!

Ah yeah the wake-up interval that was a headache for me as well. I noticed that controlling the Comet works better in the 'Control Panel'. To reach the control panel go to setup->hardware and enter the setup of the OpenZWave device. There's a 'Node Management' button at the top right of the table, press it and enter the 'Control Panel'. In the panel select the Comet go to the information tab and try to setup the wake-up interval there. Change it initially to 240 until everything works for you.
You can only change the wake-up time when the device is up but since the default interval is ssooo huge it won't every wake-up again. So remove the batteries, wait a few secs, put them back in and the Comet will enter 'installation mode'. This is you chance to set the wake-up time and this should get you in the right direction.

I further used the control panel to set the Comet into 'energy saving mode' and use energy saving mode setpoint to control the temperature, you could also use the comfort setpoint.

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't get it to work. I also tried it to make it happen on my laptop, so I installed the Z-wave stick into m laptop and installed HomeGenie. Same there: I can see the node, but whatever command I'm sending, I get a time-out... Start thinking one of those two devices is broken...

I can't seem to get the temperature sensor back now. I'll try to delete and re-add the device probably tomorrow.

Also interested how the danfoss is working for you. I haven't given up on the Comet yet. For some reason I see communication between the stick and the Comet in the Control Panel logs, but the devices in Domoticz aren't updated.

Hi all,

I've ordered one of these.
It's to go with a StellaZ that I've just about got working.
I can set the setpoint, read the temp, and change the valve level.
I can also change the mode with OZW panel, but not to direct control.
Sometimes it stops reporting - changing the wakeup interval slightly seems to fix that.
Zwave - Sigma Z+ stick, Fibaro, Horstmann, Neo Coolcam, EUROtronic
RFlink - IR detectors and temperatures
Wifi - YeeLights, ESP32s, Anoop sockets
Zigbee - lots with zigbee2mqtt and ZbBridge

I have also purchased Comet and connected it to Domoticz using UZB1 stick.
I was able to read temperature, but could not get information, which of the 3 setpoints are which, so it will take some time.
Of course I have not updated the wakeup interval and now my Comet went to sleep.

I also seem to be having totally off temperature reading from Comet. Of course I will adjust it using Domoticz sensor configuration, but I am quite surprised by this - it has been reporting 25,5 degree C, where there is 21 deg max. Of course I understand, temp is being measured next to the heater, but what is the point in having this reported if this is the case?

I have the following created automatically (except for names and setpoint values):

Code: Select all

  	113	Z-wave_stick	0000307	1	SetP3	Thermostat	SetPoint	23.0	-	-
  	112	Z-wave_stick	000030B	1	SetP2	Thermostat	SetPoint	24.0	-	-
  	111	Z-wave_stick	0000301	1	SetP1	Thermostat	SetPoint	25.0	-	-
  	110	Z-wave_stick	0000301	1	Z-waveStick Level	Lighting 2	ZWave	Off	-	-
  	109	Z-wave_stick	00000301	1	Termo-KorG Status	General	Thermostat Mode	Heat	-	100
  	108	Z-wave_stick	0301	1	Termo-KorG	Temp	TFA 30.3133	25.5 C	-	100
UPDATE 2016/01/25: Some answers and new questions below.

I have the following questions:
1. Is Level is the level of signal from Z-wave? Answer: it is the level at which pin is retracted or otherwise extended in Comet.
2. What will happen, if I turn it on or move slider towards 100%? Answer: for some reason, Comet somehow fights it back - I set it to eg. 60% and it retracts it back to 41%,. No logic visible.
3. How to underdstand, which setpoint is which? I have found out, one is for comfort, one for eco and one stays at 0 and nothing can change it. I am still not clear, how to control the Comet correctly, which settings to change, only Setpoint value (seems to be popular among users) or to move slider or what to do?

The only thing I am sure after fighting with the device for 4 days is, the temperature reported is not being updated at regular intervales (no polling set, as it eats up battery incredibly fast, since device does not sleep then).
