StellaZ acting strange
Hello,
So a new day a new challenge.
This week i have added a stellaZ to my zwave network but its giving me troubles ever since.
The first time i included it the device came up along with its 3 setpoint, slider and Temperture reading.
I enabled polling and reduced the wakeup time to 300 seconds.
Unfortuantly after 24hours still no temperture reading from the stella..
So i went on and excluded the stella and included again, unfortuanly still nothing from the stella.
Next step i tried to actually adjust the setpoint of the stella by using the switch that was created in domoticz.
Whatever setpoint i give the valve i cant hear the engine turn.
So i went to the control panel of openzwave and excluded the sensor from there and included again serveral times.
Thats the first point i noticed that the valve was registering as a general slave and the other time as a General Thermostat V2.
I kept on excluding and including again until the generic type was General Thermostat again.
Again i waited for 24 hours but still no temperature and no feeling of the fact the valve is actually doing something.
So the next step tonight was to softreset the controler and exclude/include the sensor again.
It took me quite some time to get the sensor to report as General Thermostat again and above all a softreset of the controller crashes my domoticz.
The only way to start domoticz again was by using ssh to restart the service.
One thing i did noticed though is when the valve is on installation mode the Level gets a value of 255 in the ozwcp.
Strange enough the open/close command seem to work when the valve is in installation mode.
So im back at square one and have no leads in what direction i have to search next.
Im including a screenshot of the OZWCP as what it is now.
Please note the error thats reported in the output info, its there after every include of the stellaZ.
Who can help me out?

Re: StellaZ acting strange
Not really of help, but I'm experiencing more or less the same issue: no temp reading and no movement of the StellaZ motor.
When I switch on debug mode foy my Razberry, I can see that the Stella is talking a lot, and doesn't appear to sleep. The temp reading appears 0.0 in the log files as well.
Next I'm going to try is a hardware reset of the controller and a rebuild of the network, to see if it makes any difference.
Just need to find some time, but will report back once I do.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
Quick update & asking whether anyone that got the Stella Z to work is able to chip in.
I've done the hardware reset and rebuilt the network, using a fresh install of Domoticz from git (2.3594). The Stella still only shows a temperature of 0.0, but appears to correctly receive updates from Domoticz. However, no temperature reading and no motor movement. As far as I can tell the valve remains closed (pushed in).
I did read in the manual that the Stella Z would go into error mode if it could not detect proper connection with the valve, anyone any thoughts around this? How to detect whether the Stella is in error mode and how to get it out?
For people that got it working, what valve type/brand are you using? Mine are Comap M28, perhaps the Stella believes my Comap valves are no good and enters error mode?
The Stella did not come with proper attachment for Comap M28, so had to add a conversion "hat" to M30.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
Could be that the distance between valve and motor is to small or to big.
With my Smartwares valves I needed to put 2 €0,10 pieces in between.
For the Danfoss I drilled a small hole and put a little screw.
The StellaZ never functioned properly so I didn't have the oportunity to test the valve.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
I've had partial success with mine.
With wakeup interval=300 and polling enabled, the temperature reads correctly.
I can read the valve level on the dashboard, but not with LUA.
Both LUA and Blockly can set the valve level, but this doesn't help because in Comfort mode the valve controls itself quite well.
I can also change the Comfort setpoint with Timers.
However I haven't been able to change the Mode from Comfort to Direct Valve Control.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
@Egregius: that's it!
I just tried to put in a coin and now I get a temperature reading and a motor reaction on changing the Comfort setpoint.
@Westcott: my next plan is to control the valve by "indirectly" by changing the setpoint to something way under or above the actual temperature, as I've read on many forums that people have no success using direct valve control.
Thanks
J.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
Hello all,
First of all thanks for thinking with me.
I followed youre directions as written above and yep it works.
The remaining thing is that it seems now the stella Z is always awake which is draining the batteries.
It went from 100% to 60% in just 1,5 day.
Is the stella ignoring the time i gave it to report itsself?

Re: StellaZ acting strange
What do you mean by 'your instructions'?
The coin? The php function? The wake up intervall?
Only the wakeup interval should drain the batteries.

Re: StellaZ acting strange
Sorry Egregius for not being sharp at that time, it was a bit late.
With youre instructions i did mean the coin and the interval.
Seems the stella is ignoring the interval of 300seconds.
When i look in the graphs which is reporting how much the valve has openend, i see a feedback from the stella almost every minute.
Cheers,

Re: StellaZ acting strange
My StellaZ didn't react like I wanted, so I replaced it with a Danfoss.
But, I would say not normal that it reports that much, unless it reports because the valve changes.
Does it also report that often when the temperature is stable? Or when the valve is set to a much lower/higher temperature?
