Popp Z-Weather

Post by Brutus »

Popp is releasing a new product called the "Z-Weather"

It's a Z-wave weather station with the following features:

◦World’s first energy-automated Z-Wave wireless sensor (solar-powered)
◦First wind sensor with Z-Wave technology.
◦Multifunctional sensor is able to capture and send different values via Z-Wave to the smart home center:
◦Air temperature
◦Relative humidity
◦Light intensity
◦Wind speed
◦Air pressure
◦Dew point
◦Z-Weather also provides data on the yield of solar and wind energy

The Robbshop http://www.robbshop.nl/z-wave-weerstation (in the Netherlands) has added it to there webshop today and will have it available soon they say on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/ROBBBshop.nl

I see in Domoticz that there are some devices from Popp supported.
This weather station isn't yet, but is it hard to include it? Is it possible?

If it is not i will not buy it ofcourse.

If I am the first to buy it maybe I can help with some data if needed?

I hope this will work because I think its a nice peace of hardware for replacing "Weather Underground", controlling screens and so on.

Thnx to Gizmocuz this Z-Weather station is included in version 2533! :D

At the beginning of this week I will receive my Z-Weather back from Gizmocus and will test it in practice.

@Brutus is the Z-Weather station working properly in Domoticz? Also the windspeed sensor?

I tested it for several days but returned it back to the webshop.

Here some things I don't like:

There is no battery in this weather station, only a capacitor. (Limited storage of energie). When you press the button for sending data like 5 times it's empty. So it will only send data when needed.

The air temperature sensor can't give you correct data because of the black housing. (Absorbes heat).
The thing looks like a prototype. It's a nice try but I will wait for version 2.0 or later ;)

;-) Comments by a meteo-amateur.

The manufacturer in its website advertisement correctly not claims that it is a meteo device, but that it is a sensor suitable as tool for control of sunscreens etc. and for indication of potential solar energy. Indication of wind energy is also mentioned, but that is ridiculous, because (almost) nobody has a windmill in the garden .......

For application as 'weather-indicator' a few points of attention.
[On purpose I do not call it a meteo-device, because in that application in my opinion it has major flaws]
1] The instruction movie is giving a wrong hint for physical installation of the device:
1a] Besides the wrong colour of the housing for a good temperature sensing, for representative measurement of temperature & humidity it should be positioned remote from walls and other objects, because otherwise you get effects from those objects [bear in mind the radiation you feel in the evening from a wall or a terrace being heated in the sun that day].
1b] An anemometer should be positioned in such way that you get free airflow around the 'windmill'. With the presented layout you can only check the 'local' windforce very near your screens etc. More representative measuring of the wind means that the mounting plate and the connection material should be suitable to fix the device to a pole, such as a 30mm-pipe also applied to fit antenna's. That pole should extend as far as possible from surrounding obstacles or surfaces.
2] Does the device provide wind direction to complete the meteo-picture? ;-) Interesting to know what wind direction is applicable, and whether you can sit in your garden, or have go to the other side of the house. Especially for that aspect there should be unobstructed flow around the wind sensor.
3] For representative measurement of light an instruction should be given how to position the solar panel relative to South.
Looking a the layout of the sensor-head, it means that the 'support-bar' of the device should be poining to East [?]

Remark1: Suitable device for 'very local' sensing at the southern side of your house for screen control as part of domotics and as a very basic weather-indicator. If you want to cover in the same way the eastern and western side of your house you possibly need additional devices: is that foreseen in the design, that multiple sensors can operate at the same time?
Remark2: Many meteo-devices only apply a solar cell in combination with a capacitor (not a battery), and in practise that is sufficient to sustain through light dips like the night. Such devices apply automatic, periodic transmission of data. Although an additional battery might be handy for the dark periods in winter (if the battery is OK for low temperatures) .........
On the other hand, if the main objective of the device is control of sun screens etc, and to check whether it is nice to sit outside, who cares about operation in winter's darkness?
Set1 = RPI-Zero+RFXCom433+S0PCM+Shield for BMP180/DS18B20/RS485+DDS238-1ZNs
Set2 = RPI-3A++RFLinkGTW+ESP8266s+PWS_WS7000
Common = KAKUs+3*PVLogger+PWS_TFA_Nexus
plus series of 'satellites' for dedicated interfacing, monitoring & control.

Hi

the forecast in the widget is wrong.

I use version V3.8153
Build Hash: 494fff7-modified
Build Date: 2017-07-30 12:19:41

Right now is says heavy rain... But weather underground says sunny.

Is there a fix for this problem?

Thanks...
Best regards
Stephan
