Google Cloud Messaging not working
Hello forum,
I've been using the Google Cloud Messaging for years now and yesterday it just stopped working. I get this error in the log when i try to send a notification to my Android phones:
2025-12-20 00:20:13.712 Error: FCM: Unable to get access token!
2025-12-20 00:20:13.712 Notification sent (fcm) => Failed
2025-12-20 00:20:13.718 Active notification Subsystems: fcm (1/13)
Any ideas what might had happen or how to fix that? The Domoticz GCM notification system is not documented at all.

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
Hi,
Same problem here with Domoticz 2024.6 and 2024.7.
Hopefully, the fix of this problem does not impose to install a newer version of Domoticz because 2024.6/7 are the last versions working on bullseye/OpenSSLv1. Problem with newer versions of Domoticz is that they impose bookworm/OpenSSLv3 and new GPIO management, so a lot of upgrade work
Thanks for your help.

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
Could also be an issue on the Android App side as that should receive the notification...

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
I merged the FCM message error topic into this topic as it is the same issue.
There is also a Github issue created as it seems Google revoked to API key to send messages. So this will be a major overhaul to get this up and running again.

Is there any simple alternative without installing an app?

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
The issue has been solved in Domoticz latest beta and the updated app thanks to galadril and gizmocuz.
To receive notifications from Domoticz server with the Android Domoticz app you need to setup a project. For this got to wiki page Firebase setup https://wiki.domoticz.com/Firebase_setup

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
This fix is very good and works, but maybe it should be temporary because not all users have the technical skills to implement from firebase console to domoticz and then to the app. That's why I think a simpler option should be found in the future, like it was before but which works now.

Re: Google Cloud Messaging not working
Unfortunatly this is the only way to do this. We cannot store a Firebase API key in the Domoticz public repository as Google will disable that key (as it did before). The way it is implemented now is the only way for an open source server application sending notifications to an Android App.
