Zigbee motion detectors stop working randomly requiring repair

Post by gorstj »

My Zigbee motion detectors suddenly stop working after several weeks.
This time two stopped working at the same time; they are in close range to other Zigbee devices but geographically close to eachother. It has happened over time to all my motion sensor and door sensors. (Is it related to being battery powered?)

I can fix it no problem by putting the plugin/domoticz in pairing mode then doing a device reset of the sensor which re-registers the device using new Zigbee address (but uses same Domoticz Widget).

Rather than just re-pair this time I was thinking whether it would be useful to find the root cause of the issue?

What Debug options should I enable?

This was happening with Zigate For Domoticz and since the upgrade. It happened with my old Zigate V1 and now with the Sonoff USB stick.
My motion devices are predominantly Tuya and Aqara/Xiaomi. Today it is two of the Aqara devices that have stopped functioning.

If these are the Aqara Motion , like most of the aqara there is a bug in there firmware which make them incompatible with most of the Zigbee 3.0 routers.

In order to debug and pin point the issue to confirm you fall into this bug you need a sniffer to capture the zigbee trafic.

What I have seen is: aqara works well with IKEA Tradfri routers. You so need to force the pairing to be either direct to the coordinator or via an ikea router.

You can also try on TI coordinator increasing the Transmir Power.

On my end I gave up of those crap like Aqara Motion and weather.

If you have trouble with Tuya this is a different issue but same you need a sniffer to see exactly what is happening

Thanks

Thinking about it, it does tend to be the Aqara/Xiaomi devices.

Seems Sonoff is the way to go!

What are some sensible values to put in transmit power? (Currently 0)

Will avoid all things xiaomi / Aqara in future

Interestingly a Aqara/Xiaomi mains wall switch stopped working at the same time. I wonder if that was acting as the router.

For the Transmit Power , it depends of the CCxxxx chipset. SonOff is based on CC2652P.

For the CC2652R(B) this is 5 dBm, CC2652P/CC1352P-2 20 dBm.

Now, please do take in mind that you will be boosting ONLY the transmit Power from the Coordinator to the rest of the network. It will not impact the transmission back from the device to the coordinator.

On my own setup I have put it to 5
