WHAT SHOULD A SKATEBOARDER KNOW TO RIDE AN ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD SAFELY?

Post by tatekuhic »

We all know that electric skateboards can bring up an amazing skating experience; however, not many skateboarders are aware of the danger when picking up a motorized skateboard. Therefore, they are more prone to severe injuries because the speed of an electric skateboard is much greater than a traditional skateboard.

Being aware of those dangers is crucial whenever you have an electric skateboard under your feet. In this post, I would like to share some tips to protect yourself from those dangerous situations when riding an e-board.

In order to fully understand how to prevent accidents from happening, we must learn about the reasons that lead to those hazardous circumstances. Below are some typical causes of accidents due to electric skateboards based on my knowledge.

THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM STOPS WORKING

We don’t want this to happen but sometimes, the braking system on your electric skateboard refuses to do its job even when the board is fully charged. Therefore, skateboarders are advised to check the working condition of the braking system before any ride. Moreover, manufacturers don’t recommend riders to ride down a hill at the beginning to avoid those fatal situations.

UNRESPONSIVE REMOTE CONTROL

Sometimes, the remote control on your hand is disconnected from the board or even unresponsive. The reason why this happens comes from the habit of using the remote without checking the remaining capacity of the battery. However, there are also some cases where the Bluetooth signal is disturbed by noises from the environment.

Consequently, the remote control automatically disconnects from the skateboard and you can control the board with your hands anymore. To handle this situation, please put the remote control away and concentrate on riding. Typically, the board will automatically slow down and you can jump off the board when it is safe enough.

LACK OF CLEAR VISION

This is quite obviously not just for electric skateboards but many other vehicles like cars, motorbikes, bicycles, etc. To ensure your safety, you have to make yourself visible to other people and incoming vehicles. Moreover, you had better investigate the skating area beforehand to know all the possible obstacles and risks.

If you want to skate after the sunset, additional lights or a reflective outfit will provide so much help. However, I don’t recommend you to skate in abandoned areas since you will put yourself in danger not just from the lack of proper light but also from criminals.

SPEED WOBBLES

Electric skateboards are popular due to the ability to travel at an insane speed; however, this also leads to a common problem in a speedy ride which is called speed wobbles. Without the right balance and strength to control the skateboard, you are putting yourself in a critical situation where your movements will be magnified significantly.

To prevent this from happening, you have to get yourself a good set of bushings and trucks which are designed for a speedy ride. Furthermore, it is necessary to train your ankles and muscles so that they can be comfortable controlling the board when speed wobbles occur.

There are also some solutions for speed wobbles such as trying to turn in a specific direction to slow down the board, leaning towards the front foot and letting off the throttle slowly, or tightening the truck kingpins. However, I think the best way is to train your body to handle those situations as well as stay calm and relaxed so that you can make a wise move.

KNOWING YOUR SKATING SKILLS

This probably happens to beginners who overrate their skateboarding skills. With a conventional skateboard, you are unlikely to get into a dangerous situation but break your board. However, with a fast-moving vehicle like an e-skate, you can not underestimate the risks. Hence, beginners had better take it slow and get comfortable with the board before moving any further.

WATCH OUT FOR TRAFFIC

Commonly, skateboarders do not have a specific place for enjoying their riding; therefore, many skateboarders take streets as their playing ground. Moreover, a lot of people buy electric skateboards because they want to use them as a means of transportation for daily commuting.

Although electric skateboards have been more and more popular, many people have no idea about the maximum speed that an electric skateboard can reach. Therefore, they tend to underestimate this kind of vehicle and consequently hit you by accident.

Instead of expecting other people to get out of your ride, you should learn the way to protect yourself from those dangerous situations by paying attention to the surrounding people and vehicles.

Re: High temperature sensor

Post by Mike70 »

I would use a PT100 sensor because of the high temperature you use, 140 degrees.
It is more difficult to use than a DS18B20. You can use this one easier on a Raspberrypi. But the max temperature is 125 degrees.
