Low zigbee link quality

Post by rizzah »

Hi all,

I thought id switch from zwave to zigbee. So bought the C2531 chip with an antenna, that all went fine. But noticed low link quality between the controller and my devices, making them unresponsive. I did the google thing and read to use an USB-kabel extender, which i did, and did not help one bit. I checked both my Hue bridges, they are on different channels. I checked both wireless access points, both running different channels. Eventually i thought, maybe its my controller, so i bought a new one with a new 8db antenna, but same result. Even if i place the antenna out in the open, away from the fuse box it does not improve the signal.

As far i know the signal strength goes from 0 till 255. For example the controller and the 'Sensor Trap' are 2 meters apart, so i don't understand why it only has a link quality of 77. The others are just a few meters further and the signal drops a lot. So my question is, can anyone explain to me how this is possible or maybe a possible fix?

2nd question, i thought powered zigbee devices act as an router, so why is this not happening in case of the Bijkeuken Sensor using the Bijkeuken SmartPlug as a router? Or could it be that this is happening, just the map not showing it?

Thanks.

If you would expand the zigbee network in the future I would advise for a better coordinator. I use a Texas Instruments LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2 and I am happy with it, there are even better coordinators. Use a few more SmartPlug or Bulbs, which act as routers, and you will have a perfect network.
Use a wifi scanner on your mobile and check if there is no disturbance from any WiFi router on the same or nearby channel.

I bought a Conbee2, now all the link quality is around 255, i guess it was the controller.
