Sure Flap - CAT Flap

Post by Benneton »

Hi,

Does anyone know of a cat-flap with microchip detection that have a connection to internet and would integrate with Domotics.
I found this one:
https://sureflap.com/nl-nl/huisdierluik ... ik-connect
And this one (if WiFi module is available)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/PetSafe-Passpo ... B00L6A9YY6
But discontinued:

Review:
https://techcrunch.com/2017/04/04/suref ... -pipeline/

Called supplier and the communication is a closed protocal which runs on the Sure Flap server.
It does what I require, but I do not wat to be connected to a third party server and depended on them.
My ideal is that the notifaction is logged by Domotics and that I can controll it via domotics.

Does this already exist?

I couldn't find it. So I bought the version without Wi-Fi. Works great but no notifications our something like that. Only thing is that wind can pull it open which makes a lot of noise.

Update

I have build in the cat-flap a z-wave window sensor, and configured in Domoticz an event on open to take a still from the camera that overlooks the side of the house where the cat-flap is. This way I can see if the cat goes in or out

Hello,

I wanted to do the same, but this needs a magnet that's usually quite heavy, should be stick on the moving panel and I feared would not last for long (my cat can sometimes be a real 'bear' when not detected/misses open timing)!
Did not opened the cat-flap to see if an internal "panel open" signal could be easily recovered and reported by a z-wave device as well, is this what you mean by saying "built in"?

At least z-wave signal in the 868MHz range will not disturb RFID reads in the 120/150kHz range.

Just have to take care that any 220Vac to dc switching power supply will, so a battery z-wave sensor should IMO be used: A friend of mine had a old model not featuring a PIR detector that switches the flap RFID radio only when a cat's neck approach, so flap batteries did not last for long: He had to get a transformer based power supply because using a switching one prevented any RFID detection as radio was pollute by switching frequencies used in this kind of power supplies... Consumption issue now solved on newer flaps (at least 5 years).

As I also have a camera nearby, there is a detection area on the flap. But that's not 100% reliable...

I did build the electronic part in the cat flap enclosure (bit of a pain to change batteries) and the magnet on the flap.
Removed the housing of the magnet and sensor to have better fit and to have smaller size item on the flap.
This has been working for over 20 month now. Magnet never came off. used the adhesive tape that came with the unit.
I have used a Neo Coolcam was small and fairly cheap and is z-wave plus.
