remote access via browser or app

Post by filbert »

I'm new to Domoticz and have just installed it on a Windows 10 system. I now want to access it from another device on my local network (laptop or iPad) and I'm struggling.

I've added the local subnet in the Settings/Networks area and added a user with view options and I can connect locally using the Windows machine's IP address and port. However, if I try from another system on the same network, my browser times out. I've tried adding a firewall rule fot TCP port 8080 and even turning the firewall off. Same problem. If I try the Domoticz app on my iPad, I get an error using the IP address and port 8080.

I'm assuming this is a Windows issue, not something I have to set up in Domoticz? I'm pretty much stumped, it's a good while since I had to dig into Windows networking and that was well before Windows 10 so things might have changed.

I have done some searching of the forums but can't find anything that helps - can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

OK.. so I have answered my own question. The problem was that the Windows box had the network defined as a public network. The Domoticz installation had added firewall rules allowing access from private networks but blocking public networks. Even when I added a rule for port 8080 for both types of network, I couldn't get in. Presumably the Dometicz rule was taking precedence over the port rule.

Now I've made the network private, I can get in from other systems (browser and iPad app) without problems and without having to define user names and passwords.
