Create a new wiki account?

Post by Gamester17 »

I can not use my forum account to edit the wiki anymore.

I also can not find an option that let me recover my old (forum generated) account for the wiki or create new an wiki account.

Do I need to create a new wiki account and if so how?

Send you a reply on your PM.

For other forum members: If you send me a PM with your preferred user-id (must be different then your old one) and your Email address, i wil create a new account for you.
These extra steps are needed because of the ongoing massive spam attacks on the domoticz wiki pages and a technical problem with the user administration database some months ago.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused

I would like a wiki account also.
I want to add some extra info about blocky messages to the wiki.

Also can't PM @waaren because I don't have contributed enough on the forum?
Please use the same username and email as on the forum.

Also, I don't think this way of creating an account in the wiki promotes users to contribute to the already pretty outdated wiki.

Can you please mention the part you think is outdated?

Some specific special parts are but normal operation instruction I hope are now pretty up to date. Starting with the https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Getting_started page. The mix of stable/ and long beta period does not make it easy to document everything correctly.

But I hope you can tell us what you miss or what needs an update.

To be clear, I did not mean to offend you guys.

I did read about the reasons before, and I think they are valid, missed the e-mail address though.
Just wanted to point out this works both ways, less spam AND less contributions?

And about the "outdated wiki" (or maybe incomplete?), I do not have specific examples that are top of mind right now.
I'm not working om my Domoticz setup very often, but when I need something, I often find it in the forms instead of the wiki.
This could be due to my lack of searching skills, or the google bubble I'm in, but that caused me to think that the wiki could use some work.
Maybe you guys fixed a lot the last couple of months and I'm complaining about something that's not an issue any more, this is just my experience with the wiki since I'm using Domoticz (2018).

In this case I came across a solution to add a line break to the blocky e-mail message and wanted to add that to the Wiki page for blocky.
From the reply I also understand that more HTML tags can be used to format the e-mail, but I did not test/checked this in the wiki documentation yet.

Keep up the good work!

No problem. The wiki was indeed very outdated. I changed and added recently a lot of pages to at least have the documentation fixed for the normal use cases.

As I do not use Blockly scripts I did not change any of those pages. So please feel free to update the Blockly (or other) wiki pages... :-)
