Surface pro tablet standby/screensaver

Post by heggink »

I recently replaced by lenovo tablet (android) with a surface pro 4 (windows 10 in kiosk mode). At my age, I (slowly!) need a bigger screen and teh lenovo was getting too small.
On the droid, i used fully kiosk in order to wake up the screen using the camera (works like a charm). Now I am trying to find something similar for windows 10 but struggle to make it work so hope someone out there can hive me some guidance.

Here's the challenge:
  • As a regular user, I have not found any workable camera based screen revive option (found one but it uses java, maxes out the CPU and causes the tablet to act like a heater :-(). If then I just set the screen power off, windows always seems to go back to some basic security when waking up the display requiring extra clicks (with no keyboard attached)
  • In kiosk mode, you can only use a native browser (guess what: it's only edge legacy and requires some hassle to get it to work) and can set standby_after to dim the screen but it won't put the screen in power save mode. In that sense, interested to understand if/how standby_call_url could help
Anyone any thoughts on how to work around this? I would love to have the camera detect movement and wake up the tablet but I cannot find a workable solution. Happy to just revert to a standby screen but ideally with the screen powered off.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Herman,

Can't provide you all answers, but my son working @Msoft wasn't able to remove the login screen, so when I wake the surface by pushing the win-knob I've to push the screen for loging in and then use the system...... 2 clicks to many......
In the system you can set the browser full screen and do the rest of interfacing with you're domoticz(a) with the help of Dashticz.

If you find a way of removing or bypassing the windows security I'm open for receiving this info :)

just my 2-cents, Johnnie
