accidentally update gone bad
Dear members,
I accidentally updated my domoticz. Stupid stupid stupid but I didn't pay attention to where my mouse was. Problem is now she does not start up anymore. I can no longer see her or log in at the fixed ip address.
On the Pi's monitor I do see some kind of life ... but am I bringing her back up?
I have already tried these things and the reboot and restart ...
cd domoticz
sudo cp domoticz.sh /etc/init.d
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/domoticz.sh
sudo update-rc.d domoticz.sh defaults
cd domoticz
./updaterelease
I am now reading Loades: not found reason no such file or directory
active: inactive dead
pi @ domoticz: ~ $
Should i go back back to the old domoticz version ? is that possible ? or can enter a magic code ?
Hope you can help.
Best regards, KArel

Re: accidentally update gone bad
Which version where you on before update? And which now? Stable or Beta?
Newer stables and beta need an up to date Pi distro (Buster), please check that.
Otherwise you have to go back to an older version.

I don't remember ... but now that you mention it ... the update that we didn't want to have was the update that also had to update the pi with buster.
It was a stable version I remember that.
Can I download the old version again with a code and have it adjusted?

You have to go back to a database backup from before the upgrade because the upgrade also upgraded the database (structures and data).
The old version does not work (understand) with an upgraded database.
But, maybe it as idea to make a copy of the current database and installed plugins and create a new (buster based) install of Domoticz. You have to do it anyway sometime
(speaking from experience here).
The new versions also provide quite some improvements over the old 4.x versions.

Hmm then i think it is best to get another new SD card.
Up date the domo with buster and then the latest Domoticz on it.
And than the data backup, can I install and upload the settings ?

Re: accidentally update gone bad
I did something similar a while ago, first thing to do before you break it anymore is remove the SD card and take an image of it, at least then if the next bit goes very wrong you can get back to where you started !!!
After doing the above I followed the instructions to update the O/S to buster after which Domoticz came back to life, I then took a full backup of my current domoticz config, did a fresh install of bsuster on a new card, installed the latest Domoticz stable and restored my back - all good

Re: accidentally update gone bad
Good suggestion. Doing the upgrade makes it possible to at least have Domoticz (partly) running to make a good backup and get the settings instead of having to go back to an old database (if you even have it).
Good luck
