I'm a relative new comer to Domoticz and would like some advice.
Currently I have a Domoticz server running in Linux thats hosted as a virtual machine on a home server.
I have two Honeywell EvoHome central heating controllers attached and logging fine.
I have solid 2.4G & 5G WiFi across all our buildings.
I'm looking to add Temperature and Humidity sensors to all room as well an external sensor. Being a Yorkshireman married to a Scott I don't want to spend a fortune but will spend what it takes to get a stable and quality solution.
Can someone suggest a solution that based on AA or AAA rechargeable batteries that will only need changing one a year and ideally give some form of Low Battery warning via the Domoticz server so I can trigger a 'Swap the batteries' e-mail.
Small sensors with s local readout would be good but not essential.
I'm happy with an alternate wireless solution to the WLAN but I'll need to cover a 60m x 60m plot with four buildings on it.
I've spent quite a bit of time looking at the forum and the supported hardware lists but most of the time I ended up finding out the hardware is no longer available so I thought someone from the collective would hopefully stop me going round in circles.
Finally, I'm also looking for a discrete wind strength and direction sensor to add to the system.
Thank you in anticipation
Charles

Re: Newbie - Internal & External Temp & Humidity over Wireless
Personally I would look into RF technologies that can operate with low power requirements.
Wifi does not qualify as it is relatively power hungry and will drain your battery operated sensors quickly.
Z-wave or Zigbee work well but mainly aimed at indoor use. Some device have mesh functionality to extend the range but use more power.
These technologies have some benefits especially with realtime 2-way confirmed communication. Example like motion sensors to trigger something like alarms or lights. Door sensors, etc.
When thinking about sensors from which you mostly read only like temperature, humidity, wind, rain, ground moisture, etc. and not require direct 2-way communication, technologies like LoraWan give you even better sensor options AND longer battery life.
Additional benefit is that LoraWan can have quite a long range (kilometers if needed) so it is easy to cover a large lot of ground.
Take a look at ‘The Things Network’ for example which can integrate nicely with Domoticz (TTNMQTT).
Hopefully the above gives some guidance on possibilities. Let us know how it goes
