Rain sensor changes id every day

Post by roseen »

Hi all,

I am unsure if this belongs here or under hardware, RFXComm. I'll starthere.

I have a PCR800 rain sensor, connected to a Raspberry Pi Domoticz using an RFXTrx433. It has been working fine for a year or so.

Then it disappeared, and I figured it was the battery so I changed it. At first, a fresh battery didn't help, but after a couple of weeks when I changed to a different brand of battery, it came online again.
I wasn't surprised to see that it was using a new Id, I simply added it and merged it with the old sensor.

But then after a couple of days, it was gone again. And when I checked "devices" I found it using a new Id!
I added it, merged, and kept a closer look. This time it took only 24 hours before it changed it's address again.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

could it be that this device is drawing to much current?
if the voltage drops it might get a new device because of that (eg the same if you replace batteries)

if would look inside the device for possible shortage/leakage.

these units should work fine on 2x AA(but use good ones, no cheap alkaline.

if you use recargable NIMH it might last longer because those can handle more current.
