Hi,
While using domoticz already for some years (on rpi) and enthusiastic with its possibilities, i am now investigating for comfort and energy saving purposes an Honeywell evohome on my central heating. I have searched the forums and wiki, but it is not clear to me what to choose: the wifi API or buying an HGI80. The wiki states that the latter has more functionality?
What i would like to do is especially monitoring my use/temp per room and setting temp per room via scene's/LUA. Configuring may be only via the ecohome console, fine for me. Can this also be done via the wifi API?
Any advice and/or experiences on this area?
PS I will make myself known, i have just registered myself on this board.
Regards,
Geert

With a HGI80 you can poll the status for logging purposes as often as you like. With the API, access is rate limited to every few mins so as not to overburden Honeywell. HGI80 also works with Domoticz when the Honeywell cloud service is down for maintenance. With the HGI80 you also get to see the radiator valve percentage open/closed status in Domoticz. Not possible with API.
That’s a summary of the advantages. Nothing essential but all more in the ‘nice to have’ category.

Hi Philchillbill,
I also recently bought an Evohome wifi system. And a hgi80 usb.
I just cannot get it to work with my rpi/Domoticz system.
Do I need to install extra drivers for it to be recognized?
If so, could you pls assist me in telling me how?
If rpi/Domoticz should detect it automaticly what port does if get assigned and is there a light or anything else to see the device is working?
Lots of questions and I would appreciatie the help.
Thanks,
GJ

The led only functions when it’s connected to somfy so nothing to see with Domoticz. Installing the TI chip driver is well explained in the wiki. If you want to have the same usb name after every reboot, the wiki also has an article on ‘persistent usb devices’ that explains how.

Thanks philchillbill, this helps. I have been out for some days, reason for my late reply.
I will go for the HGI80, as it is not too pricey (in the Netherlands) and it gives me more freedom to experiment with logging etc.
Looking forward in controlling my rooms and the heat pattern via domoticz!
Regards Geert

Good decision And I can heartily recommend Alexa in combination with Evohome. Great to be able to boost the temperature in a room by voice downstairs a few minutes before you go upstairs...
