Build your own RFXCOM Antenna

Post by Dave21w »

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd share this bit of information in case anyone else would like to give this a try, I've built various 2.4Ghz Wifi antenna's of a similar design but directional in the past with very good results so I decided to see if there was any info regarding building a BiQuad omni-directional antenna and found this.

https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... pplication

All you need to do is change the dimensions to suit the frequency required, in our case this would be 300 divided by 433.920 = 69.1 x by 0.95 (which is the velocity factor) = 65.7cm for a full wave at 433.920Mhz.

Each side of the square has to be 1/4 wave in length which is 16.4cm, obviously this antenna isn't that small when finished but for people struggling with sensors mounted a fair distance away I think it will make a big difference.

I'm going to give it a go over the weekend and I'll post my finding back here and maybe a pic or two whe I'm done.

Regards

Dave

Oh yea, your also going to need something like this to connect to your RFXCOM

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inches-1-6ft-C ... tail+cable

If you buy these and cut them in half it gives you 4 leads to try different designs, 10 inches of coax should be more than enough or you could just remove one close to the end if you wanted a longer cable.
