Fibaro FGBS001 and rain gauge

Hello,

I'm thinking about using a Fibaro FGBS001 with a rain gauge like this one:

Every time the bucket is full a switch is activated (every 0.2794 mm of rain).
How can I add this in Domoticz ?
Using a dummy rain switch and every time the FGBS001 is turn on add 0.2794 mm to the dummy rain ?

Do you think it's a good idea ?

Thanks gizmocuz but for the RFXTRX433 is too expensive.

It will do the job as I already have a Fibaro FGBS001 so I just have to buy the rain gauge (around 14€)

Of course, on 433Mhz you can do A LOT more (like switches, temp,..)
I see you can buy one for 72,60 (http://www.rfxcom.com/epages/78165469.s ... ansceivers)
So for 80 bugs you have a solid rain gauge.
And you can do a lot more in the feature
Yes, it is a 'little' bit more then the zwave solution, but you probably receive some temp/wind/... sensors from around the house, or might invest in some later
Instead of the FGBS00 (40 euro!), you can also get yourself an Arduino (2-3 dollar) and directly connect this to your machine or greate a mesh network with MySensors.org

So, home automation can be cheap... if you DIY! For industrial products, this is indeed surprising.
IMO, dedicated hardware vendor margins explain the difference & home automation cost.

Market was tiny a few years ago and may explain this, but new competitors (look Xiaomi) are challenging current ones.

Main risk is to see current makers (with technologies they use, like z-wave most of us invested in) collapse if they do not update their retail price according to sales volumes very quickly.

Yes, I know that Home automation ain't cheap.;
And I've already test the Mysensors solution but wasn't reliable for me has my sensors failed regularly and I drop this solution for now.
Maybe some day I'll test again.
Regarding 433Mhz, I won't invest in more (I have a RFLink but need to review the antenna) because I have the Xiaomi gateway with a lot's of temp, door and motion sensors.

If you already own a RFLink, then for ~20 bugs you get the electo, and also have a free outside antenna as well

What do you mean by outside antenna ?

sorry, i was working with antenna's that day... i meant that there is a temperature sensor included in that device as well

Hi,
I'm using RTL-SDR (rtl_433) on domoticz for reading several sensors (no problems).
I just bought an Alecto WS1200 in order to read the rain sensor.
Unfortunately I'm not able to decode it... rtl_433 is called with -G (to decode any known protocol), Domoticz is set to add new sensors, but no sensors appear from the rain gauge.

Any help is appreciated...

Regarding 433Mhz, I won't invest in more (I have a RFLink but need to review the antenna) because I have the Xiaomi gateway with a lot's of temp, door and motion sensors.

Yes, looks like it's the same device. My RFLink is using Aurel transceiver (bought the complete set from Nodo-shop) and I can at least say that is works very well with the rain meter I linked earlier.

Maybe I don't fully understand, but if mantoz already has RFLink and is now looking to buy just the rain meter, it should work the same way as in my setup, no?

Or is the RTL-SDR (rtl_433) an alternative transceiver for RFLink? Then it of course might be that it doesn't work as well as with the Aurel.

thanks for the tips, I will try from the command line as soon as possible.
I currently use rtl_433 with a SDR usb key which I mainly use for outdoor sensors on 433MHz. It works 100% ok with my Oregon Scientific external probe.
I thought it should work with the rain meter but no success for now.
