IDIOT ALERT: Any way to recover from flashing the wrong firmware?

Post by velkrosmaak »

In a slightly stoned stupor and at 2am last night, I stupidly flashed the RFXRec firmware onto my RFXTRX433.

I know. Despite the warning on the firmware flashing page. I got confused between Type 1 and Type 2 and went with the one that was neither - which happens to be for RFXRec, which I believe only receives signals.

Other than trying to reflash the correct firmware (which fails at the bootloader) is there any way I can recover from this? I've ordered the (much, much cheaper) Sonoff 433Mhz RF Bridge, but have grown attached to the RFXTRX433 over the years.

I would owe you some serious beers if you can help. Thanks!

It should not be a problem to flash another type of firmware even after the RFXrec firmware.
If the flash procedure was interrupted it is possible that the bootloader cannot be accessed by a software command. try with RFXflash.
Please contact support rfxcom for the recovery procedure if flasing is not possible with RFXflash.

If that's the case, that's great! I will try that immediately when I get back from work. I only tried it through the Domoticz UI, but will try with RFXflash on a windows box.

Fingers crossed! Thanks so much for the lead!

You sir, are a legend. Flashed it from a Windows 10 machine, and hey presto - we're back in business. Thank you!
