Hardware for PI with Domoticz?

Post by EdddieN »

Hello there,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so feel free to tell me otherwise :)

I'm in the process of starting the firmware for this device (picture below) to host a Raspberry Pi. The hardware design is mainly for industrial applications but I think I could open up most of the design if someone is interested on this type of hardware.

The hardware has:
- 6 x CT Inputs
- 8 analogue inputs (multiple levels)
- 16 digital outputs
- 16 digital inputs (some of them will be counters)
- LCD top board with the usual LEDs
- 4 push buttons for menu's etc
- RTC, serial comms, etc..

The communications with the board and the Pi is via seria interface for reading data and configuration.

It is a bit overboard for domestic applications but wanted to share just in case since so far I have been a very happy user of Domoticz.

P.S.- Still lots of work to do, this is why I'm sharing too :geek:

That's pretty cool, are you planning on using an rpi pro, or whatever the industrial one is?

As far as being overboard, I don't think you'll find many on here that agree with you. Now if you talk to our significant others, that's another story, lol.

Hi,

A standard Raspberry Pi 3, the header on the left is for that.

I have several RPI around measuring meters and other stuff, this has been working ok, but not as good as dedicated hardware interrupt counters. This is what it brought the idea to start working on it. And typical techie... it went from a small PI shield type of thing to the biggest I could fit on a DIN rail enclosure.

My objective is to create something like this

and make it to work out of the box with Domoticz but of course having an open protocol or so for anyone to hack into it, even wiring diagrams to re-program the AVRs on board.

Hmm... I just realised I should posted on the "Show your projects" board:

Any idea how to move the post?

Hello,

Would anyone recommend a company for making electronics prototyping?
The one I used is very good, but a bit pricey. Just wondering if anyone has had good experience with some company.

Thanks
