Domoticz compatibility new heating system

Post by hairydruidy »

I bought a new house (yeeey).
I have been renovating for nearly a year (boooooh)

I was first going with a classic on/off heating system, nothing regulated, one thermostat and 5 simple valves. (boooh)

Then I decided I would like to start with house automation (yeey), as I wanted to do this in my parent's house but they never let me. (booh)

I already know what I want, and even have different small scenes written out + time scheme's.
I will control my electric circuits / outlets, heating, lights, night lamp dependent on the time of day, and day in week.

The main problem is the heating, since there was only one heating, with gas, nothing else. I threw everything out, and I now need to decide on what to do.

I already went to a store, and they already gave me suggestions to what would be good to plan for the future.

ATLANTIC EXPLORER HYBDRIDE Version 3 200L
+
REMEHA CALENTA SOLO 35s

The remeha supports opentherm when a modular unit is connect such like the with isense or qsense connected)

I'm not sure how I would start connecting these things yet, but first I need to know if everything will fit in my plan.

I hope you guys have enough information to help me with the following decission

I want to have a room by room control of the temperature. 5 rooms, 2 vales in the living room = 5 sensors (zones), 6 valves

So I was thinking of either using a Honeywell evohome, or the Devolo home control (room thermostat + valve) or LC13 valve + room thermostat

What I dislike about honeywell:
no z-wave
"hacked" API
WiFi
design of valves
separate screen and platform
sensor is near the heating

pro: all in one system, with little programming required

What I dislike about Devolo home control or variants:
need to built a lot of the functionality myself

pro
z-wave
domoticz
same platform as my other automation, so no double scenes required
I can place the sensors/ wall thermostat where I want (I could opt for a all in one sensor, instead of a wall thermostat)

I know I will have to do a lot of "programming" myself with domoticz, but should it be easy enough if I just want thinks like:
*warm up bathroom and kitchen on Monday, wed, Friday, between 5.30-6.30
*warm up living room at 6-pm until 11 pm

My questions:
Regarding Honeywell:
What would be the better option, Honeywell or built my own equivalent with valves and sensors/thermostats so I can have the full functionality of domoticz and implement it in scenes, events?
Or is Honeywell descent enough to take into account that the sensor is situated near the heating? Could I use the Honeywell, and use my own sensors anyway?
Is the API good enough to be controlled with domoticz? What are some limitations drawbacks? IE: if they update, it may break things. Or do they have plans to keep a public api sometime soon?

Regarding scenes and times:
If I write down my daily schedule or weekly schedules, is it still easy to overwrite already declared events? Ie: I have setup all of the events according to my work time. But now I have a day off on Monday, can I easily turn the heating on in the living room, without messing with my events?

In this same scenario, if my heating usually turns off at 11 pm, but tonight I have people over, can I override this so it will stay on until I turn it off manually. And after I did that, will the heating follow the usual schedule again?

Regarding heating:
Does it matter if I choose iSense, or are there other / better options?

General: is all of this feasible?

PS: sorry for the long post, but I have been looking into all the heating possibilities for a few days in a row ... and then some for all of the other options like alarms, sensors, electricity, lightning, ...

EDIT: and this is probably the most important of them all. Domoticz setups is not for everyone. Meaning, a non techy person, will have huge problems settings it up. (I am a techy person, programmer, and occasionally manage and setup a network).
But when the renovations are finished, I will live there for about 4-5 years, then move out, and rent the place.

I will leave my automation there, but it may be hard for other people to reset and implement their own events.

Would I be better off with something like: Fibaro Home Center 2? or another solution?
