HomeSeer HS-WD100+ Dimmer

Post by hamster »

Has anyone used the HomeSeer HS-WD100+ dimmer and can report on compatibility? Supposedly it has instant reporting and double tap features. Hopefully someone can speak to those working or not.

I've been fussing with the HS-WD100+ dimmer, trying to get it to work with RasPI Domoticz v3.8292, OZW 1.4-2697. Some things are working well, but at the end of the day I'm still stuck on others.

The dimmer that I just bought "New" came with firmware version 5.17. After an initial few hours of somewhat strange behavior I decided to do an over-the-air upgrade to v5.19, by spending $59.95 USD for HomeSeer's software upgrade tool https://shop.homeseer.com/products/home ... e-software. I was not happy with this unexpected expense but also did not want to waste extra time chasing problems that perhaps were already fixed. I've been considering using quite a few of these dimmers in our home which helped justify some extra investment. The update runs via an existing Aeon ZStick Gen5 which I temporarily moved over to a VirtualBox Win7 machine. All of this went fine, after which I deleted the dimmer's old <Node> entry in Config/zwcfg_0x????????, restarted Domoticz and let openzwave rediscover the device.

The openzwave control panel entries for the device look very nice as shown below

OZW seems to properly discover the device's Central Scene Command Class and the Current Values properly reports single/double/triple button presses as well as hold/release events right away as they happen. This ability to trigger scenes is one of the most important features of this dimmer in our intended application, so it was encouraging seeing it work so well.

Manual On/Off/Dim operation via the switch paddle also works perfectly. Many other ZWave dimmers report their dim level only once during the start of an up/down ramp, but this one reports its level again a few seconds later after the ramp completes. This means that OZW ultimately gets the proper final dimmer setting rather than being stuck with some single random sample early in the ramp.

In response to all that button pushing Domoticz automatically created two devices having IDs 0x1B01 and 0x1B02, where 0x1B is the node ID of the dimmer. The first one seems to set and report the On/Off/Dim level of the device, and the second seems to report scene button events. This brings me to the two points on which I'm stuck:
  • The proper double reporting that we get from the manual buttons does not carry over to On/Off/Dim commands initiated by Domoticz or OZW Control Panel. Rather, Domoticz sends a command and the switch immediately responds once and only once with its early ramp level. With some other dimmers I've been able to work around this by setting the level percent to max 99 and duration per level to min 10ms. This would force those dimmers to reach their new level so quickly that their single "early" report actually comes late enough to reflect the final level. You can see that 99/10 attempt in the above image, but the trick does not seem to work with this particular dimmer. The result is that commands from Domoticz result in an unusable stream of floundering switch status reports, all of which are incorrect.
  • The scene triggers that are so beautifully reported in the OZW Control Panel do not seem to create similar LUA device events. Their devicechanged value is always nil, and the svalue is always 255, regardless of how the buttons are pushed. Moreover, double and triple presses in the 'On' direction are not even reported as scene changes, but rather, as Switch-On events from the 0x1B01 device.
These HS-WD100+ dimmers are very nicely made and seem to be attempting to implement a comprehensive set of ZWave features. I feel like they're almost working in Domoticz -- does anyone have ideas for getting all the way?
