Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
After careful consideration, I have now made a decision.
I'm just going to update/build stable versions of Domoticz to Synology in the future.
There are often changes to the source code that make the beta versions need to be tested carefully before I can post them, and this requires allot of time I do not have ...
I think that docker or raspberry pi are better suited for beta testing.
Url's for beta versions will eventually be removed from my server, so please follow the update here on the forum or on my website for future url's.

I tried docker but then i cannot use my zwave stick without doing a lot of magic to get it connected to that docker.jumbotroll wrote:After careful consideration, I have now made a decision.

I don't read that Jadahl is stopping with building for Synology. Just not doing beta's, only stable versions.

How to install the latest stable? On Jadahl's site it is saying "Do NOT add this url in package manager!"
Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
@Jumbotroll,
I totally understand and respect your decision to only release stable packages.
However in it's current state the stable package is not usable for me as dzVents is not working.
I have made some mentions about this on the forum last week and I know others are facing the same issue.
See this topic
Hope you can still have a look into fixing this and make an update of the stable package.

Download the .spk file you need and install it manually through the package manager. Just don't add the url of the site to the package manager.GJKNL wrote:How to install the latest stable? On Jadahl's site it is saying "Do NOT add this url in package manager!"

Take backup of db and scripts, then remove the package from package center and reinstall.

Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
Hi Jumbotroll,
I can understand your decision and you are a great help to all of us.
It will have cost you very much time, therefor many, many thanks!
I agree that testing on a Raspberry will be easier.
However I myself have been in the situation also that a beta was necessary to fix problems suddenly occurred (thanks to Essent - Toon) or sometimes you do not have the spare-parts to do a test while the hardware is connected to your stable environment.
I expect you gathered a great knowledge about how to build packages for Synology. I was wondering if you could share your knowledge with us and write a wiki page on how to build our own beta packages for our own Synology models. I think that would help the community.
I myself have tried in the past and I wasn't successful because there was a lack of knowledge and around that time you start providing the packages so it was not necessary anymore
.
The above is a suggestion, please think about it.
Whatever you choose to do, I have an enormous respect for you. Thanks for all your support and everything.
Best regards
Bert

Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
@bertbigb
Hi.
I would like to put out the recipe for how this is done, but I use a combination of the syncommunity framework (spksrc) and some smart solutions
Unfortunately, there is no support for DSM 6.1 in spksrc yet and then a little trouble downloading kernel and toolchains to that framework.
In my building environment, there are kernels and toolchains for all synology NASes that hold about 90-100GB of files.
The building environment on my development machine is a big mess that is not suitable for distrubusion at the moment.
Maybe if I get a lot of time left I create a wiki.

Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
Hi hi,
How do I update my Domoticz to the latest version?
When I click "Nu updaten" it states "Probleem tijdens het downloaden van de update,
Controleer uw internetverbinding of probeer later opnieuw !...".
Do I need a manual install now that "Do NOT add this url in package manager!" is on the website, Jadahl?
And how do I do that?
Thanks everybody!
Mark

Download the file you need from Jadahl's site.
Then go to your Synology, package manager, select manual install, then select the downloaded file.

Re: How to install Domoticz on a Synology NAS
Hello, I'm a new user, just starting out in the world of Domotics.
I think Domoticz is the best package for me. I installed a test version on a virtual Windows machine, but before I install it on my Synology NAS, I have one important question: Does installing Domoticz on Synology impose a security risk?
Until now, I didn't enable any remote access to my NAS, to make sure my files on the NAS are safe. What are the risks someone can access these files via the Domoticz installation and can/should I do anything to decrease this risk?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this!
