Alarm clock controlled by Domoticz

Post by ricorico94 »

Hi,

I'd like to find a way to equip my kids with alarm clocks which I could control through Domoticz: for instance, defining by Domoticz the wake up time and action (play of a specific music), displaying time, but also "forcing the device" to play a sound or music file to send orders (like "come for lunch!"). It could even be used to take snapshots as security device.

Some people mentioned to me it's possible to build device using raspberry pi, speakers, DAC, wifi key, LCD screen, etc. But this sounds complex, not really small nor "WAF" and there's no entry device in it..

On the other hand, there are plenty of android tablets, very cheap in China (let's say around 50$), and already coming with wifi, screen, speaker, battery, etc. Would anyone know a way to "transform" such tablet into a device controllable by Domiticz ? Is there any App ? If none, do you think it's feasible to have an android tablet always "on" and ready to receive orders from Domiticz (or at least through the raspberry I use to host Domoticz). (there are SPY apps for android allowing remote control, but I don't need to "hide" anything here, so maybe it's more simple)

$50 is still quite expensive and using android SoC just for clock is quite an overkill.
Consider using WiFi microcontroller like NodeMCU and simple cheap display attached to it - it should cost you around $15.

I use 4 of these

Code: Select all

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Siemens-Wirefree-Sounds-Wireless-DCWF28/dp/B00WGMNOLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458658490&sr=8-1&keywords=siemens+mp3+doorbell
They appear as ByronSX
I live in a very large house with 700mm+ walls so it is great to hear the doorbell in all 4 corners of the house. But the greatest feature is "The Dinner Gong". When I press the button in the kitchen I instantly hear the thunder of feet (Pavlov is good but it needs backing up with a threat ;) ).

They are linked via domoticz to my flamingo smoke alarms. The range of possible uses is brilliant so a kids alarm/come for lunch/smoke alarm/"Hide&Seek" Coming ready or not .... etc. is more than possible. :D

PS we also have a Zombie voice saying "I will kill you!" as part of the burglar alarm (kids idea, not mine  )
CubieTruck Master
RasPi slaves
Aeon Labs Z-Stick, multi sensor
Fibaro Dimmers, relays, Universal sensors
EQ3 MAX!
TKB Sockets
RFXCOM
LightwaveRF sockets, switches, relays, doorbell
MySensors
ESPEasy ESP8266-12E

Hi,

I didn't know this NodeMCU project, thanks for the tip. After a quick look, why not, though if I need to add speakers, charger, decent box, I might end close to 30-40$ with more efforts to integrate everything. And I would need also some software able to play MP3 -I didn't see if NodeMCU is capable of that "as is". I'll have a look.

Regarding android devices, I found several applications able to take remote control of the device (such as Airdroid, Mobizen,..), but they're proprietary environments, I don't think I could control them with Domoticz. Any idea ?

Sorry I was unattentive and missed the fact that you needed mp3 playback - this will end be most "expensive" (both hardware & processing power) functionality true.

If you order components from China, it should not cost more than 15$ with everything - most of the will be around 1$ each. Charger may be a bit more, but you will need really low current (so also cheap one).

But obviously it will make most sense if you need several devices, after all you just need one "build template" and bulk components will be very cheap.

Hey, I'm actually working on something similar using an Arduino, MySensors and Domoticz.

Mine is still a work in progress but it's coming together :)
